I have just randomly accepted a friend's offer of a 2nd row ticket to Tom Hiddleston's premier of High Rise - Meep! I've never been to a movie premier before and am now panicking about what to wear. Plus I'd just booked my train tickets to go see my Mum the day before this premier so now have to travel up to hers, then the next day travel down to London, and stay overnight... Um, what am I doing!? Just to see the back of Hiddleston's head...

Does anyone know how these shenanigans work? Do the plebs with tickets have to arrive earlier and walk the red carpet? Are we allowed to take cameras and hang around like paparazzi? Can I wear my Keens?

How cool! I've never been to a movie premiere but if it's anything like the musical premiere I went to, the red carpet is only for the stars. But it might also depend on the venue (how big, how they've set up the entrance). We showed up at the same time as celebs (I crossed the street with a couple) but we regular joes were directed to walk around the red carpet which was set up on the sidewalk. There was plenty of security so I'm not sure you'd be able to just linger on/near the carpet to take photos. Inside, the venue was pretty camera-free, whether due to security or just an unspoken rule, I'm not sure. If no specific dress code is mentioned, I'd still go for something nice, cocktail attire perhaps.

" I'd still go for something nice, cocktail attire perhaps." Oh gawd. See I have this problem with shoes - as in I can't seem to coax my feet into anything other than flipflops or kid's Keens or Nike free trainers these days. Which makes dresses (if I had any suitable) a bit of a no no. I can see I'm going to have to give this some serious consideration!

Cocktail attire can be nice slacks, a pretty evening top, and dressy flats (even sandals if they're sparkly/jeweled) :) Or, add some statement jewelry to make a more simple ensemble shine. There's a lot of room to play with in fashion nowadays!

That's super exciting \o/ I have no idea how these things work, but I suspect you might need to wear something smart (just in case!) I hope you have a great time!

That's the trouble, I just don't do 'smart' any more... Oh well, I'll work out something... :D

How exciting! Oh my gosh! What an opportunity--and yeah, what to wear?? Seems like it'd be super swanky.

My excitement is being severely dampened by fear of the swank LOL!

I am *so* jealous, how very cool!

I've never been to a movie premier, but I did do the Baftas TV Awards back in 2007 and it was an amazing experience! We were told to walk the red carpet like we owned it, like we were meant to be there!

We were advised to go full on black tie and beauty for the lasses, cocktail dresses etc. But if you're afraid of doing the 'girly' thing you can do the girl dressed very sharply as a guy thing with a tailored tux, what about that?

I hope you have a fabulous time honey!

I think [livejournal.com profile] siennavie's advice is sound re clothes and shoes. It shoes are an issue, work from the ground up, then go with slacks and a nice top. You can probably google something like cocktail pants, or something to come up with ideas.

Have fun!
