I was going to do the fic one then I saw this on chomaisky's page and thought - no! Let's art instead for a change!

Give me a number - or two if you really can't just pick one - and I'll endeavour to reply...

1. When did you get into art?
2. What art-related sites have you ever signed up for?
3. Show us your oldest piece of art you have on hand.
4. What defines your artistic style?
5. Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?
6. What levels of artistic education have you had?
7. Show us at least one picture you drew or sketched recently that you did not put on a public site.
8. What is your favourite piece that you have done?
9. What is your least favourite piece that you have done?
10.What do you like most about your art?
11.What do you like least about your art?
12.Have you ever considered taking commissions?
14.What do you like drawing the most?
15.What do you like drawing the least?
16.Do you draw more fanart or original art? If fanart, what fandom do you draw the most of?
17.What would you absolutely refuse to draw?
18.What is your purpose for drawing?
19.What medium/program do you use the most in your art?
20.How would you rank your art? (poor, mediocre, good, etc.)
22.Do you believe there is such thing as “bad art?”
23.List at least one of your “artspirations.”
24.What do you think you could stand to improve on?
25.Do you have a shameful art past? (recolour sprite comics, tracing art, etc.?

#15 what do I like drawing the least?
Anything that requires a steady hand and smooth lines, or lots of detail because I'm too impatient.

2. What art-related sites have you ever signed up for?
I'm on deviantart and that's about it.

24.What do you think you could stand to improve on?
Oh god, just about everything! I'd love to be a more confident draughtsman, everything else would flow from that, I think.

Most of what I've done recently is for a big bang or similar... I'll see what I can dig out!

4. What defines your artistic style?

Ouch! That's a really difficult one as I have a hard time seeing that I have any particular style at all really. If pressed I'd say I see my stuff as largely illustrative rather than arty, and a little stilted and unemotional.

14. what do I like drawing the most?
Faces and especially eyes. Which is ironic when you consider that I'm actually not that great at capturing likenesses of people!

18. what is my purpose for drawing?
I find this a weird question - does there have to be a purpose for a creative outlet? I'm not sure there does. All I know is that I want to create pretty things - and that most of the time it's actually very frustrating because my artistic talent lags way behind my ambitions. However, here I am, finding new pictures and new ways of creating them, and it's a lot of fun.

Eyes can be fun! But not when I have to draw a face around them :P Then my eyes look warped and weird and wrong.

I had the same reaction to that question. LOL. But then I thought maybe there's something else, some other reason out there that I haven't considered. For me, I didn't say creative outlet, so much as giving something to people (something I'm capable of doing) and honing a skill.

yes, I suppose part of my purpose is to improve (hone a skill), and part is about doing things other people will like - so there is that!

17. what would I absolutely refuse to draw?
Refuse is a strong word, implying never, and maybe extreme levels of dislike... There are lots of things I would be incapable of drawing because I lack the skill or ability, but if someone asked me to try drawing something like that would I refuse? I dunno. Depending on who was doing the asking I'd probably have a go - while warning them the end result would be rubbish!

22. Do I believe there is such a thing as 'bad' art.

I know art is subjective but yeah, I do think some art is 'bad' - or rather, I'd debate whether it was art at all. I'm a bit old-school. I am of the opinion that art should require a modicum of talent and ability, and if someone is churning out dross that a trained monkey could improve on, then perhaps it ain't art.

I'm also not a fan of 'art' that requires explanation and exposition before you can understand what on earth it's supposed to be. If the only emotion/reaction a piece of 'art' gets is someone standing there saying what the ever-loving fuck is THAT? then perhaps it shouldn't be in a gallery...

Oops, this is becoming a rant! LOL

19. What medium/programme do I use most?
Traditional mediums I use 2B-8B pencils or sometimes ball point pen. I used to use gouache for painting but I haven't done much of that for a longs time.

Digital art - I have GIMP, which I used for a couple of years before biting the bullet and buying PS-6, which I am still learning to use. Because of that, I tend to jump around between the two - I fins GIMP's cutting tool works better than PS, plus I tend to use PaintTool Sai for Mac for colouring, because it has a beautiful watercolour and blur which feel like real watercolour and blend so lovely.

23. List my 'artspirations'

Oh so many... When I was at school I was a big fan of Michelangelo and Botticelli, and the Pre Raphaelites, particularly Burne Jones. I was also really into Brian Froud and Alan Lee, and loved the fabulous black & white illustrations by Charles Keeping and Victor Ambrus.

Now I trawl the internet for inspiration - I'll spend hours image searching for ideas and have discovered some amazing and different artists that I probably would never have come across otherwise - like Ivan Bilibin, Paitoon Jummee, Craig Kosak, Joao Ruas, John Bauer, Juan Gatti (I'm sure he was the inspiration for one of the murder displays in Hannibal), Lorenzo Duran (cut leaves!)... and that doesn't include the photos...

11. What do you like least about your art?
That I don't seem to be capable of bold, sweeping strokes. I'd like to have mad draughtsman skills like Michelangelo, and the patience to fill in massive levels of detail...basically, I don't like that I'm not as talented as I thought I could be when I was a kid and everything was possible. LOL

14. what do I like drawing the most?
Faces and especially eyes. Which is ironic when you consider that I'm actually not that great at capturing likenesses of people! Using photo references in digital art has been my saviour in that respect.

I don't think we ever live up to our dreams as a child. But all art has its amazing merit. We can't all be those famous madmen who painted the classics but making our mark by sharing our talent with people who enjoy our style, makes us famous in our own right. <3

Some likenesses are hard to capture and different styles can make all of the difference. I always enjoy your works. <3

I keep telling myself it doesn't matter I'm not a genius artist or writer, I enjoy both activities regardless - but sometimes I still WANT to be a fricking genius, you know? LOL

But thank you for being so lovely and supportive. xx

I think you're right, art is indeed subjective and as such it should be given a wide baring when it comes to critique, but there *is* such a thing as bad art!
