I started off with the idea of trying to reproduce some of the feel of the original editions of Alice in Wonderland with those pen and ink drawings. From there I found a nice blank book photo and that became my base. The Dean picture is from a scene in the fic where he submits to having make up applied, and when you read the story you'll find our why he's dressed as the Brave Tin Soldier...

I used a mixture of photo refs for the positions and both Sam and Dean's costumes.
I sketched with grey lines in one layer, then tried to do the nice crisp black in another, then I used a variety of photoshop brushes to shade the pic. For the book plate page, I used a border from an old book and rejigged it to fit on my page, cutting out the roundel so I could insert the Bunny. Then because there was a dearth of Sam, I added a wee Sam floating away on a dandelion seed and a significant toadstool.

As usual, it didn't end up quite how I imagined, but I kind of like it anyway. It was certainly a lot of fun coming up with something visual for a crack!fic instead of something angsty!

sam holding on to the dandelion seed is completely adorable. and dean makes an excellent tin soldier. i think my favorite pic is the book, tho, because the illustrations make it look like a kid's book of fairy tales, and that's really charming.

I looked at your drawings earlier and thought they were awesome but didn't have a chance to comment until after I read the fic this evening. Great choices on the scenes to illustrate. They go with the story so well. I love the way you did both Dean and Frankie. Excellent work bringing the story characters to life. Sam in his lederhosen with the dandelion seed is pricelessly adorable. The rabbit peeking through on the title card is great too.

You always have the coolest concepts for BB art, and this is no exception. Love the way these look like a 19c storybook--the cross-hatching and the old-timey borders really finish these pieces in such an excellent way. Brilliant both in idea and execution!
