amberdreams: (Bum)

I had a video skype session with my parents this afternoon and since our last call just a few days ago, Dad's fallen at least three times. Mum was busy telling me about it and while doing so discovered his latest fall-injury, a scraped ankle. Of course he'd told her he was fine - the scraped ankle was while hoovering (again!) after beeing told not to touch the hoover while Mum went out. Of course she came back into the house to find him vacuuming. I suppose it was lucky he didn't fall over until after she got back.

But the best one (and I admit, me and Mum were both giggling over this) was this morning, at 7:30 Mum heard an ominous thud. She got out of bed and looked in their bathroom, but couldn't see anything, so her second thought was oh no, not the stairs again... So she went out of the bedroom and checked the stairs - nothing. Eventually she went back to the bathroom and discovered he'd fallen into the bath. Apparently he'd just lost his balance and staggered backwards into the tub... Of course it took over half an hour to get him out again - Mum had to bring in a couple of chairs for him to hang on to because he's a stocky little bloke and too heavy for her to lift. And of course somehow or other he stood on one of the chairs and fell back in.

We decided they need a portable crane in the house, and Dad needs to wear a harness all day so when he falls down Mum can just wheel in the crane, hook him up and winch him upright again.

Fecking hilarious.

Laugh away, I can't stop giggling when I think about him stuck in the bath, his little legs waving around! it's like a slap-stick sit com.

My mom is better since she had some medication adjusted, but for a while it seemed like every time we spoke on the phone she had a new falling story.

Nothing quite as crazy as that one, though!

We couldn't help laughing but it's nuts. He's been to the hospital several times and is supposed to be getting physio, but nothing is happening. I think I need to chase for them. they are both deaf so aren't very good on the phone.

He was fine! I don't know how he doesn't injure himself more often but he seems to come up with nothing more than a few scrapes and bruises most of the time.

While I'm so pleased he's ok, you're right, there's just something about the bath incident that tickles, maybe it's the fact that your mum missed him first look...

In all seriousness though, your mum sounds a saint, it's really hard coping with falls and such. Have you contacted Social Services, they should be installing extra grab handles and such, in those places where he might fall, bathrooms are a hazard, surprised Health and Safety haven't banned them my now! Hehe.

I'm going up to see them again soon so am going to try and chase up occupational health - they had an assessment and things were supposed to be happening but so far, not much has been done. And though my mum is very with it she's not good on the phone due to being pretty deaf!

LOL, your poor dad. At least you and your mum can see the fuuny side of it. It's a bit like that in our house but the opposite way around. My mum's the 'faller' and dad and I have giggled over her misadventures once we've established that she's ok. The one that tickled us the most was when she went to sit on a dining chair, realised she was going to miss the seat and shouted out "I'm going down", like she was the Titanic or something.

Bwhahahah your poor Mum! Imagine her and my Dad in the same room, it would be ridiculous. I keep threatening to get Dad one of those blow-up sumo wrestler suits and make him wear it all the time.
