This is so sad. His work isn't quite my cup of tea, though I've enjoyed some of his books, but he seems to have been a person of great courage and goodwill, and 66 is far too young. At least he gave the world a lot before leaving it.

I admit, I haven't read all his books - I read about 4 or 5, and Mort was always my favourite, and Death was my fave character. But he was such a great bloke, and to die of The Embuggerance at that age is just so wrong.

Terry Pratchett's writing was a big part of my childhood. I grew out of it, but I will always treasure it too.

Bless'im

I was sad from the moment I heard he had Alzheimer's but those tweets really broke me. So very appropriate.

I happened upon Terry Pratchett by complete accident and proceeded to devour everything he'd written. I have far too many favorites to name and have read nearly all at least twice. Even in the foulest of moods I could pick up one of his books and laugh myself silly while enjoying his quietly profound statements on life and society at large. I will miss him and his wit and his excellent sense of humor ever so.

With his books on our shelves, we can afford to deny - like mangacat201 says, as long as we keep reading his works , he ain't dead.

Wow... that is just such a very Pratchett way to go. I'm really glad he got that. I thought I heard someone talking about it last night at work, but I wasn't sure and I just couldn't compute so I made myself believe I misheard.
But wow... that is such a big big chunk of this world falling away and an inconceivable amount of worlds in those other trouserlegs too. Ever since his alzheimer's diagnosis, I've been rationing his books for myself because I knew that one day, there would be no more, but man, this is way too early to be that day.
His ability to write on so many different levels of thought at the same time has always greatly impressed me and DEATH is unequivocally my single most favorite literary character in existence.
I'll try and keep him in my First Sight and Second Thoughts... but as we all know, as long as we keep reading his works and bringing his worlds alive with our imagination, he ain'tn't dead.

I feel so sad, although I'm glad he went away peacefully. He was the first author I ever read in English.

Yeah, living with Alzheimer's is not a great way to live...and must have been terrible for his friends and family.
