My first post for
sammybigbang (fic comes next with the marvellous chomaisky). I had SO much fun with this one - when I saw the summary was recreating Hercules labours in an SPN story, I was in!
So I was very happy to snag the prompt and get to work with lan_ri. You can go and read her story via HERE on tumblr, or click on the banner to go straight to AO3.

Be aware - there are spoilers in the art (but not so much if you already know your Labours of Herakles/Hercules!)
So here we go! lan_ri suggested looking to greek vases for inspriation, but to be honest, that was exactly where my mind had gone the moment I saw the title of the prompt - so we were on the same wave length right away! :D
The first picture I did was the one on the banner, which is actually from a late scene in the fic. Then I tried a modern scene, because I wanted to see if this Attic red figure vase style would work, adn because I wanted to get Dean into at least one of the pics - and I think it was a success. Of course, I had to draw them nude first, then dress them after. Because.

A more 'traditional' vase scene comes next, with Sam hunting with the virgin goddess Artemis, chasing a hind. Um, another admission of artistic licence here - Sam doesn't actually get naked in the fic, but Greek heroes and athletes were often naked so I had to, right?

And my final illustration forms the end piece (and this really is spoilery for the rationale behind Sam's labours - though maybe not so much as it's in the summary...so)

I confess to a bit of laziness in doing part of these pics. I did a google image search for transparencies for the border designs, and lo and behold, google delivereth.
So these became text dividers too, because recycling is my forte.

Mechanisms:

Oh and in case anyone wanted to see a 'clean' and larger version of the title pic, here he is again.

Mechanisms:
- all drawn in PS6 using a variety of references. Eg. Artemis and her hind were drawn from a Roman statue in Paris, The Diana of Versailles; Sam's pose in the Cerberus pic was adapted from a drawing of a man throwing a spear by hatchethottie on deviantart, while Sam's pose in the hunting pic was from a photo of a man running on a beach found via google image search. The Trickster was from a convention photo I took at Asylum 6. I didn't have a reference for the motel scene apart from their faces.
- I used a plain terracotta back ground then grunged it up with a nice texture - #62 by cloaks (which I think was fron a set on Flickr, but might have been deviantart)
