Challenge word:  snow
Warnings: Angst – sorry! Spoilers for Season 10.
Summary: Sam’s thoughts as he deals with the aftermath of Dean’s killing spree.

Sam holds his brother’s blood-spattered face in both hands.

Tell me you had to do it, tell me you had no choice.

Sam’s Stone Number One is sand-blasted, wind-scoured, frost-shattered. The next winter’s snow-blanket might cover the cracks for a while, but come the thaw Dean’s going to crumble into dust and be lost on the breeze.

And what will Sam do then?

This time it will take more than an injured dog to prevent Sam from breathing in and in, and never breathing out – stop him taking Dean’s debris deep into his lungs and allowing it to choke him.

The imagery of Stone Number One crumbling and blowing away is just fantastic. And perfect, because really, that poor stone has been through a LOT. :(

I wish Sam could tell Dean offing himself at the first chance he sees is not the ultimate solution that would bring peace to the world and to himself. I wish Sam could tell Dean that no matter how tired he may feel, it's not the time to give in, that if they go down, they go down swinging. I wish Sam could help Dean get back his defiant smile to destiny. I wish Sam could raise Dean from the dust (like a phoenix, *winks*), and help Dean get onto his feet again, instead of just... dying away with him.
Too much to ask? Maybe.

Oh, my. This so encapsulates the real issues these guys will have when the show returns. Dean's self-loathing will be HUGE. Bigger than huge. I dunno how Sam is going to combat this, especially if Cas decides to try to honor Dean's wishes.

Oh lord, that was intense and deep and the imagery was perfect for Dean and I just wanted to cry that Sam is having to face his 'stone one' finally giving way to the weight of what he's carried for so long. You are amazing.
