This one is for alexisjane who asked - What is your most and least favorite things to draw, and what one piece of art (fannish or not) do you really wish you could have done yourself? AJ - this was HARD!!!!!

Starting with the easiest part - most fave thing to draw.

I do tend to doodle a lot of profiles. Always have... But I think my fave thing to draw is simply faces. Which is ironic because I'm actually quite poor at capturing a real likeness. Though if I practice a lot drawing the same face I do get better. When I was at school my obsession was George Harrison and this was the best pic I ever did of him. As you can see, this was attempt number 30!!

I'm still kind of impressed that I drew that when I was 16. Damn. Couldn't do it now!
Least fave - I'm not actually sure! I was going to say backgrounds/scenery, but that is really just laziness rather than dislike. And I kind of like drawing buildings though I don't do it very often. I think this was Litchfield cathedral but I can't quite remember. It was a training course I went on and this was the fab view from my B&B's window!

Ok enough procrastinating - onto the really hard part. One piece of art I wish I'd done (and by that, wish I had even a fraction of the talent required to do it!)
I can't do it. It's utterly impossible to pick just one piece of awesomeness, so I'll give you a couple of fannish ones and throw in a couple of non-fannish pieces as a bonus.
Ok this one is by
maichan - and it's just beautiful. The composition, the subtle colours, the lighting, the detail - it's got everything. You can see it's just rained, but that the sky is brightening up...it's a picture that tells a story that I want to read.

There had to be at least one by
petite_madame in here, right? I would give a substantial portion of my soul to be able to draw like this ridiculously prolific and talented woman. I wanted to put one of her biro masterpieces here but couldn't find a decent picture of the one I really, really would die to complete - a long scroll, some of you may recall seeing it. I didn't save the link or any caps of it and couldn't track it down. So I picked this one instead.

I just love the freedom of the brushstrokes; the unfinished look just adds to the drama and sense of motion.
There are a ton of other artists in fandom I wish I could emulate, these are just two examples of things I just can't do.

Non fan art I wish I could have done - I couldn't keep this to one piece either! It's not so much single works by these artists I wish I could have produced, more that I wish I could either draw as well or in that style.
First is my all time favourite illustrator, Charles Keeping. I've loved his work since I was nine. Dark, imaginative and so full of anguish.

Second another illustrator most of you will know from his work on Lord of the Rings - Alan Lee. His mastery of the pencil is just amazing. He can also do fabulous watercolours, another skill I covet.

And lastly, in contrast, another of my fave artists - Edward Burne Jones.

I love the richness of his oil paintings, the ethereal beauty of his characters, the fabulous colours and depth.

So basically, I wish I could draw and paint in dozens of different styles and was a hundred times as talented as I actually am!! As the mercats would say, simples.
