So tomorrow is The Day (though I have to wait until Wednesday morning to get my fix) and that means we have reached Season 9. I'm much happier with this season than 7 or 8, in spite of its flaws. Metatron was pretty meh as a big bad, and Show, oh Show, why can't you cope with a woman in that evil role without making her ending anticlimactic? Eve anyone? But I liked Ezekiel/Galadriel, and the finale made up for the sometimes lacklustre build up to the whole Mark of Cain thing. I like how it now appears that Crowley was manipulating things to his own nefarious purposes maybe even since their first encounter with him, who knows? I haven't looked forward to a season with as much anticipation for a long, long time. Which does of course mean that my levels of dread at the many, many ways the writers could mess this up is also correspondingly high!
There are still a few episodes I don't remember much about, but there were certainly other memorable moments...Ahem.
Picspam time!
Of course this scene was important for the

Wasn't it?

Just like this one

But this season wasn't just about the pretty, it did also give us a little bit of a story arc that was worth watching, whatever you thought about Dean's reasons or depravity or whatever.
Gadreel/Ezekiel's occupation of Sam was controversial but interesting (though the concussing poor Sam every episode got old very quickly).
And it gave us some awesome imagery - like the fallen angel's broken wings

And Sam's glowing eyes

And allowed Jared to stretch his acting on yet another version of Sam, which was pretty cool. I missed our Sam though - early season he was (I thought) lacking in the fire that defined Sammishness for me.
In terms of what Dean has done to bring Sam back in the past, agreeing to an Angel taking up residence inside his brother must have seemed pretty tame, really. And let's face it, if Dean hadn't got Sam to say yes, Sam would have died and we wouldn't have had Season 9 let alone Season 10!

Tahmoh was a great piece of casting for Zeke, and though I'm still a bit pissed off they killed him, I liked that they gave him a chance to redeem himself in dying.

Ok, back to sexy scenes again - but come on, Abaddon with Dean was all kinds of hot!

Crowley as the junk in Dean's trunk

The one good thing to come out of Bloodlines - this still

The numerous sub-plots I cared nothing about (sorry Cas fans...)

But the pretty I could appreciate

And what ever I thought about the stupid animal voices in this episode this scene - is just hilarious.
Then of course they have to go and kill me in the finale. Lots of tedious stuff I couldn't be bothered with then wham. The pace picked up, I liked the Gadreel & Cas scenes in Heaven or wherever that was with the cells and the whole idea that Metatron was going to beat Dean up even amped up on the Mark, that was actually a clever twist. Of course...killing Dean was a great scene simply down to Jared and Jensen, and I actually thought the Dean line about being proud of them was a telling one. How often has Dean EVER given himself credit alongside Sam? Never.
I'm still mega dischuffed about the fact that that scene between the boys were Dean was freaking DYING, folks, was so rudely and crudely interrupted by frigging Metatron. I know that they needed to show how Dean's sacrifice (and Gadreel's) had worked as distractionds but really it messed up my emotions something rotten. I was shouting at the screen - fuck off and show us what's important here, morons! Yep, I wax lyrical when watching, me.
So here it is, minus the irrelevancies.

I wish they'd shown Sam carrying Dean back to the Impala and to the bunker, cleaning him up and laying him out. Still, we can imagine that part well enough, I suppose, and this was killing enough as it was.
I thought the Crowley scene with the howl at the moon speech was really well done, and though the demon eyes weren't such a surprise, they still had great shock value - roll on the Season of the Deanmon...!

Still haven't seen Bloodlines and I don't really plan on it. Give me some demon!Dean and worried Sam and have it be like your summergen fic and I'll be fine.

Date: 2014-10-06 10:20 pm (UTC)I think the last time I was as excited for the new season was when we were left with Dean in Hell on the rack. But you're so right...the fear that they'll somehow stuff it all up is as high as the excitement!
Love those first few shots, where so much, uh, plot is revealed to us! :)
