Because I should be doing other things and can't be arsed, I give you....

That Crucial Movie meme...

Stolen from everyone:

Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).

  1. Life of Brian

  2. Indiana Jones (the first one)

  3. The Mark of Zorro

  4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

  5. Local Hero

  6. Gallipoli

  7. Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid

  8. The Lord of the Rings trilogy

  9. The Last of the Mohicans

  10. Kes

I was surprised, it was really tough to keep it to ten once I got going! Not in any particular order, if you want to know what any of them mean, by all means, ask.

LOCAL HERO! ♥ What a delightful movie that is! Burt Lancaster, an earthbound (and randy!) Wedge Antilles, and the glorious beauty of that tiny Scottish village. Plus, I have a huge affection for Scottish accents, so it's both visually and aurally gorgeous to me. Love this one! ;)

Gallipoli is just heartbreaking, pure and simple. I didn't even "get" that it was an antiwar movie until halfway through. And young!Gibson is gorgeous. ;)

Indiana Jones = Harrison Ford in his prime and über-badass Karen Allen.
Butch Cassidy = Paul Newman in his prime and sexy thing Redford.

Yeah, I could come over to your house to watch movies. ;D

So, erm . . . tell me about The Last of the Mohicans.

It's a date then, when you come to England we'll have a movie marathon!

I love Denis Lawson!

Ah Last of the Mohicans - I actually put that on my list not because of Daniel Day Lewis or the story (though I do love it, and grew up with a great BBC kid's serial on Sunday nights of the book) but because of the wonderful music. I just love the whole score.

I hated having to leave out films like Hero and The House of Flying Daggers, or Raise the Red Lantern - I should have included one of those for the fantastic use of colour and the beauty of the visuals...

The music is just gorgeous. I had the soundtrack once upon a time.

I had it in my head from one viewing of the film, I only bought it to put on my iPod recently! :D

Oooh, Last of the Mohicans. When Daniel Day Lewis says "I'm looking at you, Miss," I have to throw cold water on my face. So hot.

Also Local Hero. Such a quirky little film.

Bill Forsyth did a series of quirky Scottish comedy films, Local Hero was just one of them but the others were all brilliant too. Worth checking out if you haven't seen them. Gregory's Girl and Comfort & Joy
