My first, completely honest reaction?

Where's my SHOW?

I know Jensen said the Winchesters were just guest starring, but since this was billed as SPN I really wanted more Winchesters than I got. Oh, and what happened to SPN shapeshifter lore? Completely chucked out of the window, that's what. Gone was the messy, painful, tearing your skin off - instead we got insta-changing and smiling faces while they did it.

Okay, deep breath. This was not an episode of Supernatural, this was Bloodlines pilot. So that in mind, would I watch Bloodlines on the basis of that? Nope, I wouldn't. Starcrossed lovers, rich families battling for power, some poor pretty lad caught in the crossfire? It's just Dallas with werewolves and vamps. So that's that over with, now can we finally get on with the real thing please?

God yes to all of this. And they should fire Carver while they're at it. I want heroics and wisecracks not moping.

I feel those two things have been missing for quite a while now...

Yeah, that definitely was NOT Supernatural last night. Everything was off, from the music, to the pretty young rich things, to the distinct dearth of Sam and Dean. Even "Season Seven, Time for a Wedding" was a better SPN episode than this.

Dallas with werewolves and vamps.

Now, see, tossing a couple of werewolves into Dallas would make for interesting viewing. :)

It was also like a poor man's Dresden Files with out the wise cracking humour. And, you know, Dresden. Actually, even Bite was a better SPN episode, at least there we got a little bit of an outsider POV of the boys with that one. If we got that view here it was that the Winchesters are dicks, breezing in, killing a couple of things and breezing out again.

Oh and having the kid kill the human right from the start without ever finding out what had sent the guy crazy in the first place? That doesn't bode well.

While RL has been kicking my behind for the last couple of years I don't think I've ever fallen asleep during a new episode of SPN...until last night.

I think I can safely say, I will never be watching that one again. Why would I?

It's not going on my rewatch poll when I get to S9. Like you said, it's not an episode of the show.

Yeah, it wasn't our show. They were having a little holiday. I just don't know why they didn't launch a new show separate to our show. They were nothing alike. The audiences will be very different I think.

Though..Dean called Sam Sammy so there is that...:) (and he had a great one liner when he chopped off the vamps head *g*)

I thought the Buffy line was quite funny too, but that wasn't enough to justify wasting 45 minutes of my day. Oh well, I think I will count this as a brief, one week hiatus - onto next week's real thing.

It was so bad, ugh. And yeah, they completely ignored the entire shapeshifter lore that SPN built.

That sort of thing annoys the hell out of me - why place it in the SPN-verse if they aren't going to use the foundation that is already there?

YISS, I was so over this pilot. I appreciate a black lead for the hero, but beyond that nothing feels original.

Yup, I had feelings of deja vu all over again all the way through.

It felt like a poor man's Dresden to me too. I didn't like it. I think the fans could have come up with a hundred better spinoffs. That said, I think the shifter decision made sense, but only if the writers were thinking of it the way I was thinking of it... You know how the alpha shifter shifted cleanly? Well, maybe because that shifter line is so clean of human blood (remember that emphasis on keeping the family lines clean?) they have more of that ability. They really should have had another regular psychotic half-human shifter in the show to present the difference between these pure shifters and the shifters we're used to though...That said, I will be so happy to get back to OUR show next epi. :)

Ah now, you could be right there, I like that explanation. However I rather think the writers probably didn't even check the previous lore let alone come up with a logical way round it...

I'm still mad

A complete waste of episode and fandom's time, that's what it was. And so damn close the finale, where they could had used it for the current plot and not had to squish all together in the last three episodes. Whatever, fuck them. I'm so past Carver and the rest of the writers shit at this point.

I'm not mad as such, just irritated that they bothered to call it an episode of SPN when it so wasn't.

Since I didn't watch Dresden, I likened it to Gossip Girls meets Twilight. Only with far worse writing, more theatrics (Violets slow-mo jump at the bad guy- holy crap that was both hilarious and really embarrassingly cheesy), terrible pacing and all in all, I feel manipulated as a fan to have been conned into watching it.

If I didn't hate Carver and all the SPN muckity-mucks before, I am nearly apoplectic now. So angry last night and still today that I might not return to show ever again. I'm strongly considering it.

Seriously. We need to have some kind of mass warning email/letter-writing campaign to the dumbasses at SPN to warn them NEVER do that to us again. EVER>>> EEEEEEEEEEEVER.

I have to keep watching, but this was annoying. I'm not mad, but it was cheeky of them to call it SPN. I can see why they did but think it will actually backfire because 90% of their audience are not the demographic that are likely to go for Bloodlines.

I likened it to "Kindred: The Embraced", which had the same plot and a terrible, horrible, awful cop/good-doer protagonist. It was about vampire families and had a Romeo and Juliet plotline going on. Teh good thing about KTE was that it had characters of varying ages. This looked like a show populated by twenty-somethings. Yeah, I wasn't impressed with this.
