Okie dokie, because I just can't resist temptation...
Getting to know you meme

Stolen from tifaching

I know very little about some most of the people on my friends list. Some
people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this
opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing
at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's
Thingy ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who's
friended me did this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well.)
Then post this in your own journal [only if you feel inclined]. In
return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an
answer*.

Okay here goes....

I am 44, I love to cook, I write porny porn for SPN and J2, I am a nurse by trade, I am a lesbian who is in a loving 11yr relationship, There will be touching of the Jared Padalecki variety in my future come March 9th, I have an unnatural fear of heights, my favorite ethnic food is Mexican or Chinese and My favorite color is purple.

I have a relatively high kink factor for Wincest and J2.. just saying.

Some of this you already knew, other things may shock you. lol

I'm totally shocked that you like purple. Hee!

It is quite the shocking revelation, but if you're going to get to know me, it was a must to add. =D

I guess so. I'll just have to get over it, eh?

I'm in my 40s, and now that my kids are over 18, I've gone back to school. I'm taking a Film Arts program with an emphasis on scriptwriting, but I also get to learn how to be an Editor, Producer and Assistant Director. (There may be more, but we've barely finished writing the first short film we'll be doing.)

I've written in the Final Fantasy VII world, Junjo Romantica, and Supernatural. I can read wincest, but I can't write it. Although, right now, I'm lucky if I get any outside reading or writing done.

How fab that you are studying, and even more so that you went for such exciting subjects! Go you!

I've been in the same job for 27 years and sometimes it's maddeningly frustrating and sometimes it's the best thing ever. Most times it's just there, but most days are good ones. I love my flist and have had more fun here than I ever thought possible. There's good people all around.

I have absolutely no artistic talent, can barely do stick figures, but I keep telling myself I'm going to learn to Photoshop.

I was in the civil service for over 24 years but there was such a variety of jobs on offer, after I worked up to a decent grade, it was never boring.

And if you want to play with something that is very similar to photoshop but totally free - try downoading GIMP. That's what I use. It seems to have most of the same functionality, and is certainly good for a beginner! And also - no artistic ability is necessary to create stuff that looks good!

I think you know quite a bit about me, but, hmm.

My best friend when I was about six to about ten was the daughter of a member of an exiled Hungarian avant-garde theater troupe. They lived all together in a building in Chelsea, where they kept a goat on the roof, not for agricultural purposes but because it had a role in one of their productions. There was also in one of the big, cavernous rooms a giant, ceiling-height baby made out of papier maché with TV screens for eyes.

****

What (let's leave out books and music) can you never resist acquiring more of? Bags? Stationery? Fine cheeses?

From: [identity profile] amber1960.livejournal.com
That papier mache baby sounds like the stuff of nightmares!!!

I have a very acquisitive nature even though I fight against it... I do have a weakness for stationery, how did you know?? But worse, at the moment I have 4 Macbooks - 5 if you count the one I've given to my elderly aunt in Liverpool in an attempt to get her to use Skype (she still won't). Which is far more extravagant than collecting free pens at conference exhibitions.

I own a 1920s Steinway baby grand that I can barely play, but had refurbished to beauty. I would not, however, let them polish my mother's finger oil out of the ivories.

I write for work and for fun, although most of the work writing is by dictation, and the fun writing is by fingers. I started writing fan fiction in 1996, although I saw my first K/S zine at the Atlanta Fantasy Fair in .... I want to say 1983. I was intrigued but did not buy it. (I went to the AFF that year because Will Eisner was speaking, and because Bob Burden (who created Flaming Carrot) also had a session.)

ST:TOS was my original fandom, and while the other girls wanted to kiss Kirk, I wanted to be Spock.

Star Trek was one of my first loves - my other was Alias Smith and Jones. With the latter, I wanted to save a (preferably injured) Hannibal Heyes, and with Star Trek, I wanted to have the same adventures they did. No way did I want to kiss Kirk or Spock, though I did think Chekov was cute. I used to make up Mary Sue stories but they were mostly in my head, I only discovered fanfic via SPN!

I watched Alias Smith and Jones as well! A thing for buddy shows, obviously...And I wanted to make Spock smile :)

Buddy movies/tv shows have always been a thing of mine though I'd never really noticed until I came over here. The Professionals, The Persuaders, Alias Smith & Jones, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid....

Hah. Yeah, my first fanfic was probably the Mary Sue ST stories I told in my head to get to sleep.

I'm a registered dietitian and I teach online classes for a community college in New England. I live in perpetual fear that I might somehow mix up my teaching job with my part time volunteer job of wincest reading.

Gossip... my husband has benefitted GREATLY from what I have learned about gay sex from reading wincest. He would DIE if he knew that's where I learned those tricks!

Question for you- what did you want to be when you grew up? How close to the mark did you hit?

:)

I share your fear of porn/wincest/real life slashing. But I am delighted to hear your hubby is enjoying the benefits of your secret life! LOL

As to your question - I wanted to be an archaeologist and ended up in the civil service, so not very close at all. Though I did end up playing hockey with three employed archaeologists, one of whom got a digging job on Time Team for a couple of seasons. So I live vicariously.

When she was 8, my oldest daughter wanted to 'put on a show' in the backyard. I coached her and 5 friends to create a variety act show and we had parents and grandparents bring lawn chairs to watch in my yard. When it was over, their siblings asked to be in it next year. So...we did it again...and their friends asked to be in it too.

Our little backyard show ran for 16 years (we moved into a church basement after nearly getting rained out in year 3) and ended up with over 140 kids being in it, some just once, some (okay, my oldest) for 16 years.

Other than raising my girls, running that impromptu show every summer is the thing I am the most proudest of in my life!

What accomplishment are you proud of?

From: [identity profile] amber1960.livejournal.com
What a fun thing to be involved with, let along the satisfaction of organising it so successfully for so long!

As to my achievements - I don't really know that I have that many. I got my 2:1 BA Hons degree, I managed 4 promotions in the civil service before taking redundancy, I managed some successful projects - I don't know.

Maybe the fact that I finally manged to finish writing a complete original novel (even though I've kind of spoilt that one a bit by failing to get on with editing it before trying some publishing agents...). I'm not a completer/finisher so that was an accomplishment totally against the grain!

I am almost 22 years old. So still a kid by almost everyone's standards here I guess. Would be done with my bachelor's degree in ComputerScience this summer. I am in love with animation and would feel really blessed if I could make a career in it. On Lj I am very very very afraid of slash. Not like, I hate or not like people who are into it, just not a slash fan and I am always amazed beyond my capacity to see the number of slash fans here.
Quiet frankly it has made me much more open as a human. Guess that's a good thing I learned here?

I was totally scared of slash when I started over here, now I seem to have embraced it! Well in terms of reading if not in the writing. Anyhow, it certainly isn't required - there are still plenty of folk who stick to Gen.

And yay for youth! LOL

LOL, I held out for, like, a year, I think. Nope, no Wincest for me I said...then I read one of LL's porny Sam/Dean's and I was lost. I read all of hers, and then some others and then it was on to the kink meme. The first thing I ever wrote was dark porn. Just goes to show you...never say never!

I’m 31, have two kids and work for a tractor company as an bookkeeper and Jill of all trades.
I have lived in a 120km radius of Cape Town my whole live, but have never been to Robben Island. I know. Shameful.
This week I learned what a podfic is and made my first icon … ever.
Growing up I wanted to be a marine biologist.
My first pay check, stacking shelves during school holidays in 1995, I spent on a lacy bra and a CD. Vault - Def Leppard. Till this day, it’s still my favourite album. Favourite song on that album – Animal.

Your first icon - being the Dean face here? Cool!

So - have you seen those cute penguins that come up the human beaches round Cape Town then? That is one thing I'd love to see...

Date: 2013-01-25 08:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lezendame.livejournal.com
Thanks. Of course my first icon would be Dean's face. The pretty. *g* I made it from my winnings of raloria's cap-lotto.

Honestly I have never seen a penguin waddle up on swimming beaches, but then I don’t frequent those as much. I grew up the daughter of a fanatic crayfish diver, so we are more rock-people than sand-people LOL
Penguins sometimes get slammed against the rocks in rough seas, so it’s not un-common to see a wayward one once or twice a season. I did see a sea-lion twice on the beach and lots of seals. Didn't dare go near them. They can be aggressive, move faster than they look and bite!

BUT, Betty's Bay has a Jackass penguin colony that is world famous, where you can get very close. It’s a must see, especially when the eggs hatch. So cute! Smelly, but cute. Betty’s also have the BEST diving spots for crayfish and abalone, an awesome botanical garden and are smack in the middle of Great White territory.

Question: What is your favourite deli sandwich topping?

Date: 2013-01-25 09:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amber1960.livejournal.com
we don't really have deli sandwiches with toppings...LOL My fave sandwich is Marks & Spenser's Wensleydale cheese with carrot chutney. Or close second - brie with cranberry...

Oooo carrot chutney - that sounds so good. And brie. I love brie. I'm need to go buy me some brie now.

Hummm, let's see.

I'm a newly turned 47 year old woman. After being a stay-at-home mom for almost 14 years I am now a Court Reporter in the Circuit Court of our County. Most often heard phrase at work, "18 months, suspended." **headdesk**

I became a member of my first fandom (Nuke) about 4 years go and have now added SPN. Although, I love meeting new friends from all over the world it does irritate me with the fandom wars/fights/shipping.

Most favorite city ever visited . . . San Francisco. Something about that city just calls to me.

Date: 2013-01-26 02:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amber1960.livejournal.com
I've never been to San Fransisco - I've only been to the States once and that was because of SPN, the lure of Chicago Con. I'm not sure I'll even go back but you never know. I did love the Mesa Verde, which was my first stopover, and Nashville. Chicago was interesting but I have no desire to go back there at the moment.

Okay, I think you know plenty about me already but ...

I have a tattoo of a rabbit on my bottom.
I went prematurely grey in my 20s/30s so am constantly grateful for hair dye!
I was once sick down the side of a horse

How's that?

No, I'm afraid not. I had it done for my 30th birthday, long before Supernatural was even thought of!
