It would appear that Season 8 is making for some melancholy drabbling on my part.  Sorry about that.  No sunshine or puppies here....

End of the Road

***********

E/O Drabble Challenge: word count 100

Challenge word: pillow

Warnings: Season 8

Summary: Sam’s tired, and he’s looking for a future that will offer an escape from the inevitable.  Not normal, but safe.

***********

Sam dreams.

It’s always night.  Dean pulls over at the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere.

Hey Sammy.  Dean pats the hood and Sam slides up onto the Impala beside him. They lie back with a sigh; the windshield their pillow, the canopy of stars a blanket above them.

It’s peaceful. There’s no road, no past, no future; nothing here to kill but time.

Sam wakes.

It’s always night. Dean’s words echo in his head.  It’s gonna end bloody.

Sam’s seen too many endings.  Too much blood.  He doesn’t want to be there when Dean dies again.

The Hardest Thing is Letting Go

***********

E/O Drabble Challenge: word count 100

Challenge word: pillow

Warnings: Spoilery for Season 8, kind of. Also, a kind of poem.

Summary: Sam and Dean are failing to communicate and it’s breaking my heart.

***********

Sam:

I don’t want to be old, alone and afraid,

Looking back regretting all the choices I made.

I need somewhere safe to lay down my head

With a lover’s lap as a pillow for my bed…

Dean:

I don’t want to die old, alone and afraid.

I want to fight and face Death unbetrayed.

I’ve got to keep moving, got to stay on this road,

Saving people, hunting things with courage borrowed…

Sam:

I don’t want to be old and sleep alone.

Dean:

A house is not a home.

Sam:

You have to let go.

Dean:

I can’t.

No.

A/N inspired by Keane’s lovely sad song, Atlantic.
