I've only watched once and that was interrupted by hubby (dammit) but overall I enjoyed this one for a number of reasons.

  • I loved the boys throughout.  They were very relaxed (well for them anyway) and very together, and the scene in the restaurant was a good example of this, as was the bathroom conversation being held through the open door.  Lots of little touches that just spoke of them being at ease with each other in a way they haven't been for a very long time.  Me likee.
  • I liked the way the writers spun this story as a case belonging to Annie that the boys are caught up in.  I really liked the ghost perspectives - both Annie's and Bobby's.  It gave the episode a bit more depth than a straightforward ghost case.
  • Bobby!
  • Annie was a cool character, and I liked how she gave Bobby a bit of a talking to about his curious choice to stay.
I was left with a few questions though, like:
  • why don't Sam and Dean use the phone camera trick when the EMF is being unhelpful but it is clear there are ghosts around?  Hollywood Babylon anyone?
  • How come no reaper came for Annie?  That seemed strange given SPN reaper lore.  It seems she was left behind with no choice in the matter.
  • Why didn't Bobby and Annie at least consider trying to leave a ghost voice mail for the boys after Victoria explains how she did that for Annie?
I gather some folk were slagging Dean off about his angry reaction to Bobby being back - well duh!  Of course he was angry, and upset.  As was made very clear throughout this episode, ghost stories never end well, and both Dean and Sam are well aware of this fact - hence the sad tense little conversation between the two of them towards the end in the car.  They know they will have to do something, and that is going to be hard, because they LOVE Bobby.  Getting rid of his ghost will be like losing him all over again, and however it is done, it is going to hurt all of them.  The best they can hope for is a walk into the light, like Molly in Roadkill.

Well, now we'll have to wait and see how the show handles this one, as well as Getting Dick.

In the meantime, at least we have the shower scene and the tousled hair scene to tide us over and soothe our troubles...

It was actually Dean being Death For A Day that I was really thinking about as was Tessa's gentle but sure explanations each time she's appeared. But... yeah. It really boils down to Dean wrestling with the truth of What's Dead Should Stay Dead and the whole knowledge that HE is the one who's going to have to do something and no matter what he chooses, it's going to kill him.
