Inktober52 - Hammer

Inktober is doing a weekly challenge this year and this week is the first time I've managed to fit one in. Of course, with a prompt like hammer, I was bound to think of Demon Dean, right?
Imagine him singing Pete Seeger's If I had a Hammer...


The photo isn't great because I only have my iPad with me, no camera or scanner. Done in watercolour in my Fabriano Venezia sketchbook with some handmade watercolours by Poems About You on Etsy. The black lines are a waterproof gel pen.
I'd meant the background to be more alarm red but it's turned out a bit orange. Still, I think the old colour theory stuff worked!

I love the colors and the paint handling AND THE SUBJECT! I'd be so scared to go over the watercolor with ink; I'd eff it up FOR SURE...

Aw thankee - and the inking is always a toss up for me, mainly because I feel I should be aiming to make the picture look good enough it doesn't need ink outlines.

Oh and I should say - given that the Rosewillow person seems to have shut up shop, I'd recommend Poems About You watercolours over the Pfeiffer ones. The Poems ones (which I used here) seem to be a lot easier to activate and have a denser pigmentation than the Pfeiffers. Just in case you are still pondering buying some Etsy handmades.

I love this, you've captured Demon Dean very well (especially his bow legs!!!) He looks very alert and ready for demonic action!!

I never mastered watercolours; they frustrate the hell out of me, so I'm in awe of anyone that can work really well with them.
