I'm away at my mum's and my laptop has gone kaput. Which wouldn't be so much of a problem except I can't remember half my passwords for important sites like emails and my online file backups.

Oh well. I'm awaiting a phone call from Apple support, as the chap I talked to online last night couldn't work out why it wouldn't reboot in recovery mode.

In the meantime I'll be using my iPad (minus access to some of my emails because for some reason it doesn't pick them all up) and my mum's laptop.

Nightmare!!! My laptop is on it's way out, it's so slow, and it doesn't like to go on the internet anymore either. I hope Apple support can work out what the problem is.

Sounded ominous when I spoke to the supervisor (who was in Greece, apparently!) - got to take it into our local Apple outlet when I get home so they can run diagnostic, but it sounded like I might not be too lucky in getting it working again, or retrieving my stuff (ugh - photos, art wips, software like Photoshop....). I can't remember my login details for my online backups either! Dammit...

(As as a headups, I'm going to email you a rough draft of the first 3k or so of the spn_cinema fic, but there's no hurry or anything especially if you're having computer issues. I just wanted you to have something so that you can look at it whenever you want.)

Oh no! Losing access to your computer files is terrible! So much of our lives is stored digitally these days, it can be such a nightmare to lose everything. Good luck with the recovery. <3

I've got some things backed up but not everything, and not everything I need either! Best laid plans - I did save my password document the other day meaning to put it onto my iPad but of course, I forgot. Now I can't remember how to get into my backup files online, or even which email address I used. Plus I can't access two of my email addresses, the main ones.

With any luck they can back up your hard drive--or at least the files you need most.

It heartily sucks when the tools you depend on most betray you like this!

A mare indeed - and I hate that I have to wait until I get home to find out if it’s recoverable or not! It’s not so much the loss of access to some things, it’s the worrying about what I haven’t got backed up and might be lost forever (photos, mainly).

Agh, that sucks, bb. I can totally empathize--my PC died in December and luckily I have a laptop, but less luckily the laptop's been slowly dying since then too. I hope you get it sorted out soon, and with minimal trouble. <3

I’m using my iPad for some things and my mum’s new MacBook for others, but I can’t remember passwords for all sorts of things so I’m desperately hoping the hard drive isn’t corrupted! LOL

Make sure you have back ups in convenient places, won’t you!

I won’t know until next week whether there’s anything recoverable - but in the meantime, make sue you keep an eye on the Shrewsbury Folk fest YouTube channel over the next few weeks as they should be uploading their live stream recordings, and Show of Hands last night were excellent!
