Sadly these are not actually all that wicked, but I hope birthday girl de_nugis enjoys them anyway!  One Dean and one Sam drabble, coming right up. Happy Birthday and thank you for being so lovely and supportive of me and your fellow authors. You rock (in a medieval, academic sort of way).

Casus Belli

“It’s a dangerous thing you’re doing, you and our brother.”

Dean looked away.

“All your love channeled into one person, everything sealed up so tight…”

Dean knew.

He didn’t need to be told that he (they?) loved too much.  Too hard.  Too – exclusively. 

It was how it was. 

Life had stripped them of everything else – piece by bloody piece – until this was all that was left.

Just Dean and Sam. Locked in, airtight, suffocating, barely holding on.

It didn’t matter any more.  Dean wouldn’t have it any other way.

It had been, after all, the starting point for their war.

What’s Love All About?

Sam held his breath and waited.  Watched Dean stop talking to the psychiatrist and turn instinctively towards him.

Lucifer smiled triumphantly.  “Told you.  He can only speak when you’re breathing.  He can only dream when you’re asleep.”

Dean took Sam’s hand, face drawn and anxious.  His mouth opened and closed soundlessly, as if he’d lost the ability to breathe too.

Sam waited a moment longer then let it out with a sigh.  Dean leaned on the bed, so Sam could feel the shudder of his brother’s relief.

Lucifer clapped in delight.

“Now see what happens when I stop your heart.”

Oh, thank you! Those are sad and lovely and the second one is wonderfully creepy. They really sum up the way that Sam and Dean have too much invested each other, and know that it's too much, but it's still what's keeping them alive, keeping them connected.

And medieval academics are very rocking! Our main US conference features a midnight dance.

Some do! Though mostly its just academics reading papers to each other.

There's a big UK yearly medieval thing, too, at Leeds, but it doesn't have a dance.

Leeds eh? Seems an odd choice for medievalists but as there is no dancing there wouldn't be much point in attending. Hope you are doing fun things with your new feline friends for your birthday!
