Hopefully whatever I do at the sketchbooking class tonight will be more successful than this!
I'd say it looks better in the flesh than in a photo - but it doesn't LOL. However, the sun came out and combined with some nicely placed shadows...

This is amazing! Really inventive take on the prompt. And the flecks of deep red-orange against the gold of the eye is a great touch. And is that a bit of gold shining in the scales as well??

Honestly, that's all in the photo lighting - the gold pen is a bit streaky hence the seeming red, the light is catching the paper a bit, hence the seeming gold. The actual drawing is very dull!! LOL

I know how hard it is to photograph artwork and that is indeed great lighting! Yay for sunlight in autumn, that really added something to the piece;) But I also really like the image itself, what a cool concept and composition! Is the little man's background the original colour of the paper? I like the structure of the material!

The paper is that browny/beige - basically the entire bottom half of the pic. Yes, your paper cutting is definitely challenging to photograph!

WOW. This is such a great effect with the sunlight! I had to look again and again and then I read that it really was true sunlight. Very dramatic.

the shadows are pretty fabulous, and so is the metallic ink. the giant eye and the tiny person together look really good.

Dude, I like it, you have got to stop being so hard on yourself. We all having a learning curve, and we're all lacking in certain areas, but art is subjective! I love this!

Neither are mine hun, I actually looked through my album for last year and with the exception of yesterdays, the majority of mine show a decline in my hands' ability to hold a pen or form the lines I want. But, it's still better to try and do than not, right?

When you talk about you ability to hold a pen - is it about strength of grip, or what? I'm just wondering about how you could get round it. For instance, my friend with chronic arthritis uses pens with fat grips to help her write, and I know you can buy these spongy rubbery grips to slide onto existing pens. Don't know if something like that would improve things for you.

I have a set of spongey grips Mama got me, which I use a lot, they're hilarious, they make you feel like you're holding something - else ;) And I have pens with rubber grips on them.

My issue is with strength and positioning, so for instance I've always drawn at a funny angle to the page, I write the same too, most people spin the page a touch, I kind of draw upside down or at a 90 degree angle to anything I'm drawing on, and then my fingers/wrist lose strength and the pen/pencil just stops being usable.

I don't know how to explain - have you ever had one of those moments where your hand just does it's own thing and you drop something, like your fingers open on their own? That's what happens to me if my hand's have been overworked or are particularly achey.

Maybe you could retrain yourself to hold a pen differently - it sounds to me like what you are doing is putting a lot of strain on your hand (and possibly your wrist). If people can learn to draw and paint using their feet, surely it's possible!

I've tried, that's actually why this year's inktobers are so scrappy, because I'm trying to retrain my wrist and hand to sit in a different position, but it's hard work. However, the hand looseness/lack of strength thing happens regardless of how I position my hand. Hence being able to see the difference from last year's to this.

I think that's great - very eye-catching (excuse the pun). It's cool how the real shadows trace the drawn shadow under the little man!

Oooooooh, this is freaky cool! I love how the RL shadows in the photograph work so amazingly with your little figure's shadow - give the piece a really atmospheric feel. I can see this being an awesome book cover or something.
