Inktober 2017 - Day 8 - Crooked
Oct. 8th, 2017 07:47 pmI thought about crooked houses and crooked paths... but then of course, I thought about the Winchesters, and Dean. Because.
So here's my take on Dean's arrest way back in Season 2. I don't much like the Blue Steel (plus it would be too hard to draw!) so this isn't it.

It was really hard to photograph this, especially as of course I didn't finish until this evening so artificial light buggers up the lighting, plus the flash reflects badly off this shiny paper.
Progress:
I used the Lanatech paper because I haven't tried it before and it is quite nice to move the ink around - but the downside is, it doesn't dry very well so it's really easy to end up with smudges everywhere!
I started with a soluable graphite sketch

Then I inked the outlines with my Japanese brush pen (using the small brush)

Followed by wielding the water brush to start shading

And finally building up the shading and adding darks with the brushpen's bigger brush

The advantage of this shiny paper is that you can keep working over bits - I might try a bit more tomorrow in the daylight.

Date: 2017-10-13 05:11 pm (UTC)Thousand times yes. I usually end up thinking regular features are easier to do and then find out that a likeness of 'conventional' prettiness is very very hard to do. I haven't really practiced drawing him a lot and was pretty stumped in my attempts. People with distinctive/irregular features are so much easier to get right! (With the exception of Benedict Cumberbatch. His face is a nightmare to draw)
