Apparently. Mashable report that the guy who's bright idea this was is withdrawing the bill.  BUt he is then quoted as saying "The theft of America’s intellectual property costs the U.S. economy more than $100 billion annually and results in the loss of thousands of American jobs. Congress cannot stand by and do nothing while American innovators and job creators are under attack.”

Right - firstly - prove it.  He also told us how much profit is being made in spite of piracy (A humungous amount) and I bet the amount stolen is balanced by people like me who actually buy more music and more DVDs because of people sharing their illegal downloads. Who is making that calculation to offset the supposed losses?

Second - key words in that statement - American IP.  Not IP from anywhere else in the world, outside your jurisdiction, oh Uncle Sam.  So hands off Stravinsky, thanks very much.  How dare you adjudicate against the free distribution of IP that has been in the public domain for years and never belonged to you in the first place?  How f**king DARE you.

And that was done without any new SOPA or PIPA legislation - so none of this makes me feel any better.

The music and movie industry should start offering content legally, so I don't have to download it from sites like megaupload. I can't download the new season of Supernatural (nor season 6) on iTunes Germany for example and it's the same for songs! I purchased over 15 songs last year just because I heard them on YouTube. I dowloaded 10 songs from YouTube because I couldn't buy them anywhere. Go figure!

Exactly. They just don't understand that the world has changed and that we are not content to wait years, months or even days longer to see or hear stuff that is being released in the US (and I know it works the other way round for things like Sherlock made here - the Americans don't expect to have to wait a year before they get to see Sherlock or Downton Abbey, do they?)

This. Funny, cause I just finished watching The Hound of Baskerville atm. Now that I heard Sherlock's real voice I don't want to watch any dubbed version again! ;)
