The sting in the tale

Argh! I'm all for bee conservation but it's a bit much when the same bloody bumble bee stings you not once but three times! Once in the park, once when I got home and hadn't realised the stupid bee was clinging to my top (having presumably accompanied me round Iceland to get tonight's dinner) and once on my toe while I was (oh the irony) looking up online to see what type it was, thinking it was safely occupied in the space between the window and the secondary glazing.

And of course my toe is too small to use my Aspivenin vacuum thingy. Grrrr and likewise OW!

Bumble bee - precise identity still unknown - is now outside in the bushes. He's lucky I didn't swat him.

Ha ha well it's definitely a bumble bee but apparently there are 24 different species of bumbles. But Asshole BB is good enough for me.

Apparently bumble bees get aggressive in reaction to perspiration, deodorant, laundry detergent, and a load of other smells - I'm amazed people aren't getting stung left right and centre!

I did not know that! So when I go out smelly I can blame the fact I don't want to be stung by a bee right? lol. Seriously though, people should be getting zapped all the time.

IKR? I looked it up yesterday when checking what to do with my stings. Apparently it's just a localised reaction - my toe is ok, the one on my forearm just looks weird but the one on my upper arm feels like a big bruise. Not too bad - better than when I got bitten by an ant. That really hurt!

Ack, yeah. I've been antified before, those little sods hurt like hell. Funny story, my Gramps and my Nana were out one day and Gramps sat down on a mound of earth to wait for Nana whilst she used the public rest rooms. He sat on an anthill. When she came out there were people *beating* him. They were trying to get rid of the ants that had basically thought the dinner bell had sounded, but my Nana started piling in and hitting people back because she thought they were actually beating him, LOL!

He ended up with ant bites AND bruises. And then Nana had to apologise to everyone she'd wonked with her handbag. And my Grandmother's handbag was the Navy Seal equivalent of a supplies pack. Weighed a ton and had everything but the kitchen sink in it. Thankfully she had bite cream ;)

I'm glad our bumble bees here are so insanely docile. There are literally hundreds of bumble bees buzzing out on the farm this time of year, and we bump into each other all the time. The worst they ever do is make an annoyed buzzing sound before heading on their merry way. I even accidentally put my foot in a bumble nest a few years ago and didn't get stung, but I have been stung by about every other member of the bee and wasp families, and it's certainly no fun!

I hope your stings clear up quickly and that your bee ambusher has gone on her way.

I've never come across an aggressive bumble before, I've no idea why this one was so stingy! One of the stings is painful but not too bad - it just feels like a big bruise now, and the other two seem to be innocuous. Apparently certain smells can make bumble bees cross, but as those smells seem to be anything from perspiration to deodorant, I can't see that there's any way to avoid them.
