Still Life - SammyBB art masterpost
Mar. 17th, 2017 09:32 amMy second art for
sammybigbang was for
themegalosaurus's sad and creepy Still Life.
First the banner (click on the banner to read the story on AO3)

This picture of Jess at the door of the MoL bunker is the image I did first, because the scene (which comes right near the beginning) was so striking.

Here's the banner larger, and without the text

Process!
For the banner I drew Sam using conte pencils - sanguine and pierre noire. I chose these because their grainy quality helps stop me being over precise.

This was the screen shot reference I used (one of
raloria's - thanks me dear!).

I then photographed the drawing and opened it up in PS to add shading and text. I drew the shadowy figures in the doorway in PS too. I wanted to leave this deliberately ambiguous, hopefully that worked.
For the Jess picture, I used a bts photo of the bunker doorway. I used one of PS's art-effects to create that fractured look, changed the lighting and used the colour dodge tool to add the touches of a glow. I overlaid the whole picture with a layer to give it the look of shafts of light.
The figure of Jess is all drawn in PS, using this photo from the pilot as a loose reference.

And that's about it! I haven't seen the finished story yet, so I'm looking forward to reading how it all turned out, because the draft was pretty intriguing!
