Quickybang - Exile for zubeneschemali
Sep. 16th, 2016 11:32 amEmploying my usual lack of ability to prioritise, here's my latest
quicky_bang - which wasn't actually due for another three weeks or so.
This is for
zubeneschamali 's sci fi J2 AU ficlet Exile.
Click on the teaser to go read the fic

And here's the full picture. I don't think it's spoilery, because you won't know what's happening if you don't read the story, but you can always go read first then come back!

And for those of you who like the process stuff:
I was intending to draw on paper, then - I didn't. I wanted to sketch out the pose first so I thought I'd do that in PS, which meant I ended up doing the whole thing digitally instead.
So here's a few steps along the way. I started with just the boys in a large 8000x4500 px file.
Sketchy sketch

Starting to colour

The next step was to cut out the boys with the cardboard texture background I'd been using to draw on because not only is is a good texture, it makes nice skin tones. Then I opened a new file in landscape to start on the background.
Cut out boys.

The background is a composition made from a stock photo of Vasquez Rocks which I first elongated and then used a PS filter to render it into shapes and shade. The moon/sun is another stock photo with a gradient filter applied over the top of everything to add the colours. The tree and its leaves were made with a couple of PS brushes from brusheesy.com.
Here's the pic before I added the body art and final shading.

Oh and I nearly forgot, this was the photo ref I used for the pose.
