Eye eye Cap'n!
Sep. 8th, 2016 08:22 pmJust a brief update on the eye op - Paul escorted me there and back and even made me dinner this evening, bless his little cotton socks. i think I should put the computer away now though, because the eye is now feeling quite sore and looking rather inflamed. I have this clear plastic patch thingy that I'm supposed to keep in place until tomorrow morning, but I've undone it once to put the anti-inflammatory eye drops in, because it's a lot redder and angry-looking now than it was when I took this pic earlier today.

The new corneal consultant (who was a rather handsome young devil, though I shouldn't notice such things) was very good. He had a chat with me beforehand, explaining that the corneal scarring made this more complicated (both the op and the recovery), and so he's put me back on the anti virals as well as the steroid drops to try and make sure the shingles virus doesn't get stirred up by the trauma to the eye. Hope that works! It has been dormant a long time now and I really don't want that scar to get any larger, thanks!
So anyway, I think it's been a success - from what I can see through the plastic, all the cloudiness has gone so yay for that. Plus he said if the remnant of the lens clouds again this a) won't be a result of the continued use of steroids (which I will need to keep using) and b) can be fixed really easily.
If anyone was wondering what an eye op like this is like - it's weird. They literally stick this cloth thing over your face then there's a hole in it round the relevant eye which they work through. I think the eyelids are stuck under this thing to keep your eye open, that's what it felt like anyway, and then they bring this bright light down right close, and you're suppsoed to look into the light all the time. I could still see with my peripheral vision sometimes - the ceiling and stuff, but most of the time all I could see was some very pretty shades of magenta, mostly, with some orange and occasional rainbows. I could actually see when he inserted the lens, there were fractals and I could see it moving around. Got to say, it wasn't painless, though the level of pain was more at the end of discomfort than a Winchester #5. There was pressure, I could feel him scraping around and it wasn't pleasant - plus I really really wanted to blink after about five minutes, but of course, I couldn't.
Oh and they irrigate they eye a lot and most of the water ends up running down your neck. So it's a bit soggy. And worrying when you can here the consultant stopping and going Hmm in a quizzical tone, as if he's found something unexpected. Sigh.
Anyhow - I survived! LOL
Thanks very much for all the well wishes and good vibes my dears! I appreciate it!

Date: 2016-09-09 08:54 am (UTC)I gotta be honest - anything involving the eye makes me squeamish. The mere idea of being awake during the procedure just... *shudders* You are way braver than I could ever be!
Sending lots of healing vibes your way!!!
