My second
sammybigbang was by
indiachick - I was so lucky to snag this one, but hey! how could a girl resist a summary that offered post-apocalypitic Sam on a motorbike?
I confess I was worried about doing the subject justice - there are other great artists I know could have done something great with this - but in the end, for once, I'm actually quite happy with my efforts. (It's a miracle, huh?)
Fic link HERE or click on the banner!

The banner represents a scene in the fic, but it's not spoilery unless I tell you what's happening - so of course, I won't! :D
indichick's writing is so full of imagery, I was swamped with ideas from the first paragraph, but this next one was the first illustration I did for the story.

I started by making a photomanip as a reference (because motorbike!), then I digitally painted Sam and the bike. The background is a photo mashup of two different photos.
Then indiachick explained that she envisaged the boys as linked to the sun and the moon, so I had this idea about trying something more decorative and symbolic. I'm a bit of a fan of Alphonse Mucha and Art Nouveau, so that's what influenced the next two pictures. As will be blatantly obvious to you if you know the style LOL.
First is Sam, and the moon.

Dean and the sun

I liked these two so much I've put them on redbubble! Yeah, shameless self promotion here.... DEAN & SAM
And after this, I was intending to do some dividers based on imagery about death (owls, moths etc) except I got distracted by this scene where Sam looks at himself in a dirty mirror and displays a significant-to-the-story tattoo. (If you want to know how significant, you'll have to read the fic, won't you...).
So this was the result. Sam in the mirror

And in case you wanted to see it, just for fun - Sam looking at himself in the mirror

And a close up of Sam's face

Process-wise, this was very much a mashup arting - I used my own photomanips, found-photos and textures for backgrounds and overlay effects combined with digital drawing and painting, and everything had references. The main refs I used are below for those interested. All from google searches.
