Well, it has finally arrived after six (or was it seven?) years. 959 pages excluding appendices...I may be gone some time.

I don't know how a book can look delicious, but damn! that book looks delicious! What is it about?

Oh!! It is epic. This is book 5 (there will be 7 in total if dear old George doesn't pop his clogs before he finishes, which at the rate he's going is actually highly likely!). HBO just finished airing the first TV series based on the 1st book - well worth downloading, though obviously the TV show is a lot simpler than the books.

Basically, they are about a world where there are several kingdoms that have been united under one ruler, but have kept their identities. In the north is a mysterious and terrifying threat most folk are unaware of, kept behind a massive wall of ice and stone, guarded by a small number of men. To the south over the ocean there is a remnant of the old ruling family, exiled after their father went mad, looking for a way back to rule.
There are many families, loads of great characters, politics and intrigue, murders and incest and just about every kind of excitement you could possibly want in a story!

Ah! Is this part of the Game of Thrones series? I just started downloading that show, haven't seen it yet, but everyone talks marvels of it :)))

Yes Game of Thrones was the first book. I love the books and the TV show was really very good too - even the characters I wasn't sure about at first (you know how you have preconceived ideas of how they should look and sound) turned out to be spot on. This latest book should let me catch up on some of my fave characters - he likes to write each chapter from a different character POV and the last book was mostly ones I didn't like so much!

I got my e-copy yesterday, too! I, of course, have just started the series so I have a while to go yet before I get to this one. Just means I'll have a great year as far as reading is concerned.
