So me and my friend had a lovely day out in London today to see David Tennant's performance of Shakespeare's Richard II at the Barbican. I took a couple of snaps on my phone of the stage before the performance started and had to delete one when they caught me sneaking a pic of the performance (Oh naughty naughty Byrne).
The set was clever - those pillars are all projected.

It's a cool theatre - the doors to each row close automatically just before the play starts

David Tennant was good - he managed to squeeze some dignity out of the part's more pathetic scenes and the famous speeches were excellent, but I actually thought Bolingbroke kind of stole the show. Also they'd managed to slip in some slashy overtones between Richard and Aumerle - so much so that they had a full on snog when Richard is gearing up to abdicate, and then changed the script so Aumerle is the one who turns up to murder his king at the end. Interesting!
And David's hair extensions were unfairly realistic as I can't grow my hair that long!
This is NOT my photo btw...
