Experimental drawing

I downloaded a free copy of Sai for Mac on the advice of badbastion, and have been playing with it today, having finally worked out that the reason my tablet didn't work with my new laptop was merely because the bluetooth connection hadn't been set up...Doh!

So this is the result of a bit of experimentation using a Vancon photo by wolfpup2000 as a reference.  It's interesting, I must practice a lot I think... I'm not sure how to do the line layers and there doesn't seem to be a smudge option in every mode...Basically I haven't a clue what I'm doing yet LOL!

I used the photo as a layer to get Jared's basic features, then tried some experimental colouring with the paintbrush and airbrushes, and striped Jared off for good measure. Hee.
So it's a bit of a mess but I can only get better, right?

Thanks! It's an overdrawing as opposed to an over-painting, if you see what I mean... :D

It's a Wacom Pen Tablet. I've had it for ages but when I first got it I had no idea how to use it or the paint programme I had then (Corel Painter Essentials) so it's been gathering dust (literally) until today!

This is awesome for a first attempt at something which means absolutely nothing to me!

You can clearly see Jared's features, no doubt, and I heartily approve of his wardrobe!!!

You know I think naked Winchesters are always better ;) Sai...I'm not familiar with that one, maybe Mac only? But I assume it's a painting program and if you're going to tell me this was your first drawing on a tablet there will be jealousy...

The hair looks really, really good, I think. I'm not so enamoured of the face whiskers.They seem too dark against the skin tone (like dots rather than hair). The shading on the skin is also very effective. The highlights blend very nicely into the rest of him.

I'm amazed this is a first attempt, because from where I'm sitting, it only needs a little tweaking.

Thank you! Yes the line drawing part was iffy, you are quite right. I was looking for something to soften the lines but couldn't find it in this software - there must be a way!
Glad you liked it anyway *g*

PS the hair was my fave part!
