Thoughts (mostly questions!)
– Dean has killed Death (maybe). Does he/should he now take Death’s place?
– God in the SPN-verse is really monumentally stupid. He created a Mark as a key to keep the Darkness locked up, then gives it to Lucifer. Which ok, Lucifer was in God’s favour at the time, but surely God must have known the Mark would corrupt? And does this mean that Lucifer’s cage is more about caging the Mark than caging Lucifer?
– So they got Sam there to kill him, solely to stop him searching for and trying to rescue Dean from whatever limbo Death had in mind. I don’t know what to think about that – it’s flattering on Sam’s behalf that Death feared his tenacity so much he felt Sam was a piece that needed to be taken off the board all together, but it didn’t really make all that much sense to me. Unless Death knew Dean wouldn’t go through with it and somehow wanted Dean to end him, not end Sam.
– So much potential for next season – Rowena as the big bad? Or perhaps not, as there is also the Darkness, which I’d assume to be the forces of chaos and on nobody’s side. Then there's the possibility of bringing back Gabriel - certainly an archangel ally who helped defeat the Darkness last time round would be useful. Or how about the possibility of an alliance with Lucifer to fight the Darkness – maybe letting both Michael and Lucifer out of the Cage? This latter possibility could also open the door for a final end and/or a second chance for Adam.
– I feel any sense of hazard for either Crowley or Cas – both are signed as season regulars and I can’t believe that an angel could be bound by a witch’s spell for more than a few minutes before his grace would burn it out. Plus, WHY would newly evil Crowley give a shit about helping Dean get rid of the Mark? Knowing that these episodes were filmed out of order made me think Crowley had regressed to the partly human version before the swirly red eyes.
– How did Rowena suddenly break out of her shackles? That seemed a tad hand-wavey.
Does this make it sound like I didn't enjoy watching it? It probably does, but I did enjoy it regardless. Honest.
