How come I never win prizes I actually want, but I win ones that give me almost exactly the opposite of what I'd want? Last time I won a raffle I got three cans of lager (I'm teetotal). This time I've won a signed copy of Fifty Shades of Grey!!!!! In a prize draw I didn't even know I'd entered via our local library.

Got to say, I'm pissing myself laughing here. Wonder if I could sell it on Ebay for a couple of quid.

This cracked me up because both of those are rubbish prizes (even if you drank, what the hell are you going to do with three cans of lager?) Last time I won something in a raffle (years ago, I'm not a lucky soul) I won a really ugly pair of mittens - I am the last person in the world who would wear mittens. And so many picture frames.

Hee! it's good to know I'm not alone in my good luck really being bad luck in disguise syndrome!!

I once won the world's ugliest frog statue. I HATED that thing.

Eventually I gave it to someone who thought it was the cutest thing ever. No accounting for taste....

Ah well, it's good to know even Ugly Frog was loved, hey? :D

The best thing I've ever won was a pack of tissue paper...

You won the anti-prize!

I certainly hope you can make some money from it! And if all else fails - it'll make a very serviceable door wedge.

Ah tissue paper - which you could use as toilet paper, another use I could put 50 Shades to if I can't sell it...

LOL, nooooooooooooooooooo! But I bet you can sell it for more than a few quid, esp. if it is a nice edition. People love that book.

I'm sure you could sell it on e-bay, there are lots of fans out there! You could then buy something you actually want!

*snorts* Congratulations on winning, that is glorious, heehee.

I only ever buy a ticket in the National New Year's lottery and last time I won 100 euros (Well, 70 really, since the ticket itself was 30, but still)! I bought loads of books. No, not that one;)

He he! I have mixed fortune when it comes to raffles and competitions, either I don't win anything or I win when all the good prizes are gone. I have won chocolate a few times which is always welcome.

I'm sure you could make a few quid if you sold it, especially now that the movie is out!

Heheheeee! XD Well, at least you have some luck at winning; maybe it'll produce something good one day! I, on the other hand, have no luck with prize drawings at all...Boo.

it's a mystery to me why people like it, but timing is good, with the film being out and all...

I wouldn't blame you!! Unless you say yes and use it to advertise the sale of the book ;)

Perhaps the Fifty Shades might make more sense if you drank the three cans of lager?

I think I'd have to drink a LOT more than three cans... Ha ha ha!

I think I might need some luck selling it - I just did a quick search on Ebay and there is a signed paperback on offer with 4 days to go and only one bid of £0.99!! LOL

Ugh. Oh gosh how awful. What useless prizes.

I must say I've been incredibly lucky with raffles. I once won a lawn mower (and I needed one at the time!), and another time I won a computer (just through stuffing my business card into a box at a trade fair as I rushed past). I spent the next month waiting for someone to come and take it away, because it seemed too good to be true! :)

You sound like my hubby - he's the gloomiest most pessimistic person I know, but he seems to have a knack of winning raffles. He won an iPad mini in one of those business card drop things once too!

Oy, lucky you. Makes me wonder about who might raffle that off. Probably not the Ladies Altar Society of Our Lady of Perpetual Consternation. Maybe the Parent Teacher Association for the Literacy fund drive since the high school librarian rejected it for reasons. Or the local animal shelter or kennel club with an extremely tacky comment about collars and leashes. One generation got Lady Chatterley's Lover and we have this....some day it will probably be required reading for some college lit class.
