February Fandom Love Fest - my lovings

selenic76's Fandom Love Fest...
Until this morning I still wasn't sure what I was going to do to celebrate Fandom today but then I found a couple of things in my inbox and thought - yup. That there is two good reasons to love Fandom, I'm sure I can come up with eight more. So here we go
1. We are family. I have to put this at the top of the list because a) it’s true and b) it kind of shapes everything else in a way – the good and the bad. And you know I’m going to have to post this vid now, because.
2. We are supportive in so many ways – people readily give their time, talent and money when they hear someone is struggling, or needs help. How marvellous is it to know that if you hit a black spot in your life, there are dozens of people out there to give you what you need when you need it? For example, this morning on a Face Book group, someone posted that they had a funeral to go to today, their husband’s twin brother had died. The messages of support are both moving and wonderful – and you can bet that most of the people talking over there have never met. Then on the other side of the same coin, an SPN friend is going for a big audition today, with the famous Halle orchestra - so his page was filling with good luck messages (fingers still crossed for you, Dave - may your cello be mellow!).
3. We are generous – linked to the support angle but this can range from offering online advice, idea-bouncing, alpha-reading or beta services to practical help in real life. Also look at the power behind Random Acts, all the money donated to charity as well as to friends who needed a helping hand. Fandom isn’t full of rich people but we have deep pockets all the same.
4. We are artistic – and oh boy, some of the art in this fandom is stupendous. I point you to some of the awesome artists on my Flist and rest my case!
5. We are creative writers – whether it be porn or schmoop, J2 RPF or SPN, slash or Gen – whatever the pairing, whatever the kink, we innovate, we tell stories, we write poems, we write all the words and we are awesome.
6. We are readers – I would never underestimate the power of reading. Without the readers, writers would have no audience but themselves. Sure, we’d probably still write, but eventually, we’d wither and die from the loneliness of it all. I love reading, I love leaving comments, and I LOVE people who do the same for me.
7. We are liberal – ok, this isn’t universal but it’s an atmosphere fandom creates.
8. We are encouraging – in my experience, concrit is given constructively when asked for; people are endlessly kind and I know I wouldn’t have continued writing and arting if it wasn’t for the encouragement I’ve received from everyone here. You rock, my dears. We rock.
9. We are fun – so much fun! All the pic-spams, song-spams, communities aimed at cheering the soul with laughter or porn (or both together)
10. We are real life as well as online friends thanks to fandom – I’m looking at you
dizzojay, 999alena, dean_hugs_sammy, xlittleangx, Dave Padacockles, Viana, Lynn, Tracey, Terri, Wendy, Roy, Bev, Viv, Renate, Christine, Elena, Sandra, sigrundora, katwoman76, Missy, Lynda, Kym, Kyla…damn, I’ve never had this many friends in my life! And that isn’t counting all my online friends here and on FB. Add in everyone and it’s an embarrassment of riches I am so grateful for.
So ♥ THANK YOU EVERYONE ♥ – fandom is you, and it’s me – and yeah, feel free to break into a chorus of Sister Sledge again if you want.
