amberdreamsHalfway! Five days to go and Season 5.
Although the ending got changed for the best of reasons - to give us more SPN - I still think this season works. It's not quite on the level of Seasons 4 or 2 in terms of coherency, but the overarching story has the feeling of being planned and makes sense. Okay I confess I am still disappointed in a way that we never got Dean as Michael and Sam as Lucifer, but I can see why we didn't. I know a lot of people HATED the angel storyline with a passion, but I loved it. I loved the epicness of it, the whole idea of the boys being at the centre of a conspiracy to further the basically petty ambitions and grudges of creatures that should be above it all. I still think SPN are incredibly brave and radical to be challenging the idea of God being the all powerful, ever present being of our major religions (but maybe that's the atheist and lapsed Catholic in me talking!).
Some of the treatments of the potential storyline and the characters (Pestilence, War, the pagan gods and gods of other religions) was disappointing, but overall, I liked the angle. Plus the actors they chose to play the various characters - Mark Pellegrino's Lucifer and Julian Riches Death in particular - bloody fantabulous. That, together with some of the sub-plots and storylines - like Gabriel in particular - still have the ability to wow me.
And this season still packs in some of my all time great episodes - The End, Changing Channels, Abandon All Hope, Swan Song...
Together with some more development of the gloriously bureaucratic villain, Zachariah, and that reveal about Gabriel, which I still love so much. In addition, we had another of the best character intros, up there with Castiel's first entrance in Lazarus Rising - Death walking down the street in slow motion,with the leaves blowing and that amazing song.

We get a new Meg - I still find that drawl weird and off-putting...
Ellen being badass! I haven't forgiven you, Show, for killing her off, and Jo. And ripping my heart out in that scene...

Loved Dean checking out War's cherry ride!
Boys in scrubs, pudding and Boop!
Some fabulous exterior Impala shots, interior shots of awesomeness and scenery
I absolutely love love love this warehouse scene from Changing Channels - the wy that episode went from hilarious to clenching a fist around your heart, it still amazes me
And Gabriel - oh Richard Speight Jr, what an actor you are.

An ode to The End
The thigh holster. Gulp
Future!Dean is hawt.
Two Deans for the price of one - and hotness and comedy aside, this whole episode is gripping and moving still. I love the fact that Zachariah underestimates and totally mistakes how Dean will react, shown this possible future, and that in trying to push Dean into saying yes, Zach ends up with the opposite effect. It makes Dean more determined to hold out, and pushes him back to Sam.
Sam as Lucifer (and two different versions as well) - sticking a finger up to those who kept saying Jared couldn't act.
For me, this is one of the most heart-wrenching shots in SPN history
I could carry on, picspam this to death, I've got hundreds of stills and caps saved but I'll finish it here, with Kripke's little fond farewell to SPN.
Oh and I should have said - screen caps are my own, other photos are the official stills. And apologies for the incoherency. I ended up finding even more to enthuse about than I expected! LOL

I love it especially with that visual, too, in the episode. Slow motion walking and, seriously, Julian Richings is so amazing. I love how Jared and Jensen both have talked about his talent.
