Four otherwise unrelated drabbles using the word thread as a common thread har har har...
Chewing the Cud
***********
E/O Drabble Challenge: word count 100
Challenge word: thread
Warnings: none
Summary: Dean suffers the effects of yet another transformation spell. Jodie is amused, Sam is not.
***********
Jody can’t remember how it felt to be normal. When she tries – thinking about threading a needle with cotton to sew on a button rather than stitch a wound, or using a knife to chop vegetables instead of sticking it in a ghoul – she can see the images but it’s like watching a movie. All Technicolor and even 3D, but unreal.
Even her last date was a demon, for fuck’s sake.
Still, this takes weird to a whole new level.
Dean bats his eyelashes mournfully and she can’t help sniggering.
“So, how long’s he been a cow then?”
Sam sighs.

Tightly Woven

E/O Drabble Challenge: word count 100
Challenge word: thread
Warnings: none
Summary: In some far future, there are legends about two brothers who saved us all.
***********
They say it predates the Fall. Certainly it’s ancient, this tapestry they call the Winchester Chronicles. The colours are faded with age, but here and there’s a hint of the original – blood-reds, cerulean blues and shamrock greens predominating.
Through it all runs a twinned thread of pure gold.
Experts debate the themes portrayed, but to the ordinary observer, it seems pretty clear. Legends all tell the same tale – of two brothers who loved each other too much and too hard. They made sacrifices they should never have made, but in doing so saved the World, and that made them heroes.

Fate, destiny, call it what you will

E/O Drabble Challenge: word count 100
Challenge word: thread
Warnings: none
Summary: Sometimes, Sam dreams about dying.
***********
Sam has the same dream sometimes.
In this dream, he’s merely a spectator, watching while the three Fates go abut their business. Clotho is spinning, distaff rotating so fast it’s just a blur. Lachesis tugs on gleaming threads, measuring, while Atropos hovers with shears sharp as fear, waiting for the right moment to slice through a life.
Sam recognises his own thread, and Dean’s. Wonders whether he will lift a hand to stop the blade when the edge is finally at his throat, ready to sever his thread.
Sometimes Atropos looks at him, puts her shears down and walks away.

Torrid

E/O Drabble Challenge: word count 100
Challenge word: thread
Warnings: none
Summary: The Winchesters are in a Motel somewhere hot and humid.
***********
The heat is a physical thing, moist and heavy on the skin, seeping right into the bones and out again on every exhale.
Dean listens to the ancient air-con rattling, on its last legs just like him. He’s too weighed down, can’t even open his eyelids to see what Sam’s doing; doesn’t really need to. Tied together as they are with invisible thread, Dean knows Sam’s half naked at the formica-topped table, too-long hair shielding his face, head down, studying.
Dean doesn’t need to open his eyes to picture that drop of sweat trickling down the dip in Sam’s spine.
