Take 10 minutes to make a list of books that have been important to you at some time in your life. Don't stop to think, justify, add authors, or make notes. When 10 minutes are up, you can reorder the list and add additional information. Readers can ask questions about the books on the list.
I haven't reordered these, just made sure I've got the right titles and authors matched up, so these are the order I remembered them in:
Lord of the Rings - J R R Tolkien
The Road to Sardis – Stephanie Plowman
The Road to Miklagard trilogy - Henry Treece
The Sword at Sunset - Rosemary Sutcliffe
The Anglo Saxon Chronicles
The Phoenix Legacy trilogy - M K Wren
The One and Future King - T H White
The Pokey Little Puppy
The Sparrow – Mary Doria Russell
Ender’s Game – Orson Scott Card
Alhambra – Madeleine Pollock
A Slave of the Huns – Geza Gardonyi
The Golden Shadow - Leon Garfield
Maurice Druon’s Cursed Kings series
A Sprig of Broom series – Barbara Willard
A Daughter of Time - Josephine Tey
Neverending Story – Michael Ende
Beau Geste – P C Wren
The Book of Lost Things – John Connelly
Mists of Avalon - Marion Zimmer Bradley
Set All Afire - Louis de Wohl

All Quiet on the Western Front – Eric Maria Remarque
The Source – James A Mitchener

The Flight of the Heron series by D K Broster
Paddington – Michael Bond
Just William – Richmal Compton

It has the same lyricism and world building as Riddlemaster, but with a darker society and heroes who are more flawed. Or the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. Both of these are wonderful series.
