This one left me with quite a few questions and niggles after a single viewing:

  1. Why is Dean not already more suspicious about Zeke's prolonged occupancy of Sam?  I find it hard to believe that he really thinks Zeke hasn't healed Sam yet, after seeing Zeke completely heal Castiel from being freaking DEAD!!!!

  2. I am fairly sure that at some point early in their relationship, Dean called Castiel Clarence.  And even if he didn't, we know Dean is the movie buff out of the two brothers, I cannot fathom that Dean would not understand that reference.  Or that he wouldn't already have queried it when Meg used it.  So yeah, that was irritating.

  3. Rogue reapers and reapers in general.  It would appear that they are some sort of relation of the angels as a) they can be killed with an angel blade and b) they give off the same or similar white light like an angel's grace when they die.  The big question is - why is Death apparently not aware of all these rogues and doing something about them?  Which makes me hope that we will get Death and maybe Tessa returning later in the season to round up the rogues.  It's got to be disturbing the natural order, surely?

  4. Major niggle - Misha's acting in this one.  I loved his 2014!Human Cas, I thought he did a good job ant most of the other versions of Cas that he's been lumped with by the writers over the years, but this version felt uncomfortable to me.  It was as if Misha couldn't quite decide how to play this Castiel... I don't know.  I think perhaps I will get more nuances on a second watching.

  5. That ending!  So how on earth is Dean going to explain to Sam he's chucking Cas out of the bunker, having just spent most of the episode searching for Cas to bring him into safety???  All highly suspicious, and indicates to me Zeke has something going on here outside simple kindness - I am looking forward to the fall out from all this. Yup.

  6. Dean - my boy, how can you be such a lousy liar when you are supposed to lie every day in the course of your work?  Sam has GOT to suss him out soon, he is soooooo bad at this!  LOL

  7. I'm waiting for the antiDean backlash.

Anyway, you'll probably get the impression from this that I didn't enjoy the episode - I did! I'm still really happy with this season so far but I want more Kevin and Crowley, more competent badass boys, I want Tahmoh back as Zeke and I think I've been spoiled by the first two episodes...  Now to trawl the flisties to see what everyone else thought and get some deeper more meaningful insights.

I pretty much had your reaction, including thinking that Misha's acting wasn't super great. I felt like his distaste for the material showed through a little.

...but maybe that's just me.

I dunno, there was definitely something off about that performance...

It isn't just you two. I love Misha's acting, but I felt it to be stilted. Maybe it was just his portrayal of Cas trying to figure out humanity, but I've never seen him act out Castiel so...ungracefully, if you'll pardon the pun. I loved the ep, don't get me wrong (and Cas' sex scene, even though April was a bitch) but I do think that something was very much off.

LOL, I'm not thinking too deeply about this one. I got through it quickly because fast forward worked really well for any scene featuring Castiel anyplace but the bunker.

I'm not thrilled with the rogue reapers. The only deep thought I've got going there is how much it still surprises me that when the big bad bosses try to hire a different sort of baddie (or even one of their own) and do it by saying "I've got one word for you...Winchester." And the people they're trying to hire don't go "Oh, hell no." As it turns out this one really should have done. I was all like, "really, dude? Go ahead and follow Sam and Dean. Don't you things ever learn?" That scene was a total throwback to when Gordon followed them into the alley way back in season two.

Okay, I do have a thought about your thought about Death. I really don't think he'd be happy about the Reapers having side jobs and I hope that comes into play at some point.

It was, as all the other eps have been so early into this season, a really well written episode.

Hat tip to the writers; they seem to finally know what they're doing as this one seemed to pace really well and culminate to an endpoint that was actually exciting and heartbreaking when Dean thought Cas was not only dead but not coming back. Until Zeke stepped in to save him and in the end, when Zeke stepped in to kick Cas to the curb.

So... my question is, why on earth did Zeke bother saving Castiel at all? It's clear he didn't want the angel around while he dangled Dean on a string, so why save the guy to begin with? I get it. Zeke (if he is a good guy), likes Cas (I guess) but man, that was a dick thing to make Dean do. And there's yet ANOTHER thing for Sam to be pissed at Dean for later; not only did Dean allow the angel to deceive him into being possessed but now this?

This season in a nutshell for me so far: It's like a really well written show for .. completely different characters with whom we have no history.

I don't think thise week's episode is going to answer any questions - though I'm avoiding trailers and spoilers I've seen the characters involved and the title screen...

Late to the party again, but . . . agreed with every single point.

Dang it, I keep missing your posts! Time to put you on "notify."

1. Oh, gosh, I've been hugely suspicious of Zeke since 9.01. I still maintain that he had something to do with Sam's lifesigns monitor suddenly crashing like it did. The dude has been manipulating Dean since the beginning, and I trust him as far as I can throw Baby. And why IS Dean not suspicious yet? Twice within three episodes now, Zeke has said something along the lines of "Do this, Dean, or I'll have to leave -- and Sam will DIE." You'd think the second incident would make Dean wonder, but no. Hmm.

2. I always though it was Meg who first called Castiel "Clarence," but still. DEAN OUGHT TO KNOW THE REFERENCE! He's the king of movie trivia, for crying out loud.

3. Really, REALLY don't like the idea of Reapers suddenly being angels. :(
why is Death apparently not aware of all these rogues and doing something about them? Because the writers forgot? ;)

4. So much this. I didn't see "Castiel" at all, not even the temporarily!human Castiel from S5. (Several people on my flist have said that they "could see Misha" during certain scenes (the "wasted food" line, et cetera), so yeah, the dude was all over the map. Agreed with your perception that Misha couldn't decide how to play Cas.

5. I am SO not going to be happy if Ezekiel simply wipes Sam's memories of the search, and going to be DDD: if Dean is the one who suggests it.

6. Agree 5000%. Dean, what the hell?

7. Oh, I hope not! He's still getting slammed for his actions in 9.01. :(

Better late than never hey?! I only really stick these reaction type posts up for my own benefit anyhow, it's a bonus if anyone else reads them!
