Discussion of the day

I'm sure I've had this discussion before but, dear flisties, what is your view on fanfic authors who don't reply to the people who comment on their stories?

Personally, I think it is very impolite, and if I find a fic with a bunch of comments and no replies from the author, I usually don't leave a comment of my own, even if I really like the story and want to give the author some feedback/love.

This was sparked by my just finishing a Destiel fic (yes, indeed, shock horror!) that I really enjoyed, but when I came back onto my computer to call up the fic on AO3 and leave some feedback, I found 56 comments and the only response from the writer was to answer someone who said they didn't understand the postscript. Which in a way, made their lack of responses to people's squee even worse, in my view. Clearly this person sees the feedback but can't be arsed to say thank you.

I dunno. What do y'all think?
