Just got back from the new format Cocktail party - such a weird set up and no better for us than last year in terms of talking to the guests, except this time we could at least see that they were all present. I sat on a sofa with Mark Sheppard and we ended up talking about my previous job, Paul and how long we'd been together (Mark was impressed by our 36 years LOL!) and then I asked him how fatherhood was suiting him this time round which meant we then spent the rest of the time looking at pics of his new baby on his phone. That at least put a smile on his face! When Daniela came to take them away Misha came over and grabbed my hand, saying how sorry he was he had to go already and he hadn't even said hello yet. So I asked him if this was inappropriate touching (because he'd suggested this is what the evening would be about when they'd all arrived at the start) and we agreed we'd count it and tick that off the list. I think from the huge goofy grin on his face he was a wee bit pissed.
Tim's meet n greet was interesting, he was much quieter spoken than I expected. He talked about some of the same things as he'd covered during his panel - like how short sighted ABC were in dropping Galavant, and how working on that show was the best thing he'd ever done. He clearly just loved it so much. He said he didn't think it had more than one more season's story to tell, but that it was a crying shame it seems likely that story will never be told. Though there are 11k signatures on the petition so far, and Mark Hammill tweeted to say how much he loved it. He talked about Italy, and his love of London, what it's like being father to an eleven year old and a fourteen year old. His fourteen year old has recently got into SPN and is working her way through from the start, currently up to season 8. He's gutted she is refusing to watch his episodes out of context! LOL. He gained a lot of credibility with his daughters recently as he managed to score them backstage passes at Burcon. They were puzzled by the fans reaction to their old dad!
Tahmoh's M&G was a bit boring thanks to some of the attendees spending far too much time complaining to him about the guide on the Roman holiday (which half of us hadn't attended and could care less about). It warmed up a bit when we moved him onto his recent travels - he's in the middle of five conventions in a row, all over the world and is feeling the strain. But he's really looking forward to his one free day in Rome after this con, and seeing New Zealand when he does his con there. He touched on the differences between Canada and the US, talked about the different cultures and covered the new awareness of First Nation rights, which is always interesting to hear as he is so passionate and hopeful about the topic.
What else - the panels today were really good - we had Rob and Jason opening, with one guitar between them. They did some song snippets until some dodgy wiring which kept crackling really loudly made them give up. Rob answered some good questions about his Godhood and recent episodes. I took a few videos which are taking forever to load on Youtube, and some photos which are also taking an age to load onto Flickr! Rob and Jason were followed by Mark, who crashed the end of the panel to tease Rob and also talk about God and Crowley. He stayed on stage for a little while before doing his usual walk about, questioning latecomers and generally harassing the people in the question queue. I think he scared a lot of people off because the questions petered out a bit, and so we heckled him a bit from the front row - he asked for questions for Misha because most of the queue were there in advance to ask Misha questions. So I asked what he thought of Donald Trump - not a lot! Mark asked the room what we thought about Trump and there was a huge groan. So yeah, Europe is not in favour.
Misha popped up at one of the mikes to try a question in his India Russia accent, which didn't fool anyone for a second, least of all Mark. Misha was in good form today. He seemed to be in a really good mood, and the questions were quite reasonable, so he didn't muck about too much, and appeared to be enjoying answering them. He looked tired, but also really nice in his black sweater and jeans. Misha was followed by Tim, whose hair was longer than ever and who was looking very dapper in his blue suit. He was also on good form and I took a bunch of photos because he just looks so great - his face is incredibly expressive. Richard too - and Richard's panel was hilarious. He spent the first few minutes taking the mickey out of Tim, the two sharing the stage and talking about their old friendship before Tim left to do photos and autos. These overlaps on the panels are one of my fave things about JIBcons.
Gil and Tahmoh finished off the day's panels nicely - it wasn't a pairing I'd thought would work on stage, but they were really relaxed with each other and seemed to get on well. Gil was in a very smiley mood.
If my photos ever load, I'll post some!
In the meantime, here's the one Youtube vid that's posted so far.
