Ok so the day before yesterday I posted this poem thingy, which seemed to go down quite well (thanks everyone!). But ash48 said it should have art, so I thought about it, and had a few ideas… Then I found a picture in the Science Photo Library of a heart and lungs, and this happened.
Ash my dear, you are a filthy enabler and I hope you like this!

Dean's face went a bit wonky and I probably should have spent more time on it but...I didn't because I'm a lazy bugger.

And excuse me while I scream, just a little bit, because LJ was buggering me around all day yesterday - then this morning it wouldn't load at all and argh! But finally I think I'm back in business. Phew.

Aw, hon, this is soooo beautiful ♥ (I may have gleefully studied the vasculature for a minute or two.) I love the hands, I love the yellow-ish paper, I love the whole concept most of all. Wonderful work.

Ooh as you are first responder - do the internal organs look about the right scale? I had to draw the boys round the organs and wasn't sure that was quite correct.

Oh dude :D If you really must know, not quite, they're too small. The tip of the lung is up by the lower margin of the clavicle, and the outer lower corner is around 8th rib, I think. You can look up chest X-ray - the grey region is the lungs, and you can see where they are in relation to ribs and clavicles. The hearts are a bit more to the left and higher up, with the subclavian vessels (branching off aorta, on top of lungs in your art) located under the clavicles, closer to upper margin.

That being said, this is beautiful and personally I think you could pull artistic license :D

I thought they were too small! Cool. I think making them the right size might have lost the body shapes though so - yep. Deffo claiming artistic licence! :D Thanks!

Good heavens, the poem was so beautiful and this is just stunning, the two together are just breath-taking! I love the colour and their postures. Beautiful!

I just saw this on tumblr and was rendered utterly speechless. Everything about is perfection.

The poem says just about everything that I've thought about each of them; Dean loves so intensely that it almost suffocates Sam, yet he needs him like air. Dean holds onto Sam so tightly that he tries too hard, goes too far, and when Sam tries to explain how it makes him feel Dean misunderstands and it cuts to the bone.

The art is stunning. The entire concept and composition is wonderful.

You've outdone yourself with this, it's extraordinary.

Wow - this is beautiful and hurty and the art just makes the poem all the more powerful.

I love the sketchy style and the aged look of the background. And those poses are perfect.

Wonderful! :)

Wonderful composition! Their body language is so strong in this and so hurty, too! It looks like Dean's lungs aren't supplied with blood, they're so pale... is that because he's dead? *sob*

Oh honey!!! I can't believe you did this!! \o/ That is UTTERLY gorgeous and perfect. Their faces, their hands (SAM'S NECK! <333), their hearts and lungs…*GUH* EVERYTHING!

(and Dean's face is beautiful!)

I'm so thrilled you did this! *off to look for tumblr post*.

ETA: found it and reblogged it. :D And I have to say, I read that poem again and boy, what a powerful piece. I love "but I ran onto your knife, let you stab me deep". The idea that Sam wanted to do it but couldn't, so Dean helped him because he wanted/needed to…Whaaaaaa…so hurty.
xoxo

Oh you noticed the fading - I was trying to highlight each of them so Sam's lungs are in colour but his heart belongs to Dean so it's faded - and Dean's lungs are Sam's so faded on him. Too deep, huh?

From: [identity profile] amberdreams.livejournal.com
Oh yes, it could be prophetic too, couldn't it? I was actually thinking that Dean allows Sam to hurt him, so many times - hence the posture where he's got his hand up as if he's trying to protect his heart in the picture, but he's still left himself exposed... where Sam is all tight and tense because he's feeling suffocated.

Thanks! I found a medical drawing that kind of looked like this, a similar style, and the idea grew from there. Glad you like it!

D'uh. Not too deep at all if you look at it in connection with the poem. I noticed Sam's faded heart as well which is why I asked in the first place. Didn't make sense with the explanation I came up with but it totally makes with yours. I guess my mind is still stuck on the finale, I tear up every time I just think about it. No thinking further for me, nu-uh. By the way, I love your line art in this. Their hands are a thing of beauty.

That is amazing! I love the poetry (and how it's structured!), and how the lungs are a deeper color on Sam's picture and the heart is darker on Dean's. Excellent job on Sam's expression, too - that's really hard to pull off when someone is looking up like that.

bb, you are completely blowing me away with your artwork lately!!! I mean, not that you don't always, haha, but these last few pieces have just been SOOOO phenomenal in all possible ways, from the concept behind them to the composition of them to all the little details. My god. <33333

All of my recs for the next like, billion years are just going to be like "yup, so over at amber's journal..." and "so AGAIN..." XDD

I love the poem. I love work that understands and captures the tragic polarity of the brothers. I love the use of the sybolism: all the associations of the breath and the blood. The artwork illustrates the themes beautifully and beautifully executed.

Perfect image for the perfect poem, genius concept.

Re-blogged on Tumblr too, - ( just a suggestion if it's not too forward of me, put your own artist credit at the bottom of your work on Tumblr? Always nice to know the original poster owns the work and gets the love, too many over there are getting attention from the work of others. )

If you have the time, a watermark would be best, no one can take that off without going to a lot of trouble!

Even though, just adding, either a caption or a written title in the text box keeps that information with the post and therefore your Tumblr name goes with it as it gets re-blogged.

I added your information as I re-blogged here, if anyone re-blogs from me, that text stays, however if you'd put that line then everyone re-blogging from you would have taken it along with the picture and it just makes it easy to see that you are the artist as well as the source poster - often source posters aren't the creators, if you see what I mean.

Ah I'm with you...mmm. I'll have a look - usually I do add some comment to a post but this time I didn't because the poem's embedded - I hadn't thought about reblogging because most of my stuff never even gets one note let alone a reblog!

Just wonderful! Brilliant work.

Playing catch-up! (Was under the weather for the past few days)

I loooove the anatomical parts, and the colors you used for them. Reminds me of an old-school, turn-of-the-century medical illustration. The hands are brilliantly drawn, m'dear! And then SHOULDERS. Niiiiice!

And you've really captured it. There's something about the drawing that puts me in mind of Raphael's "School of Athens".

I really don't have any new words to offer along the lines of wonderful, gorgeous, beautiful, heart-breaking etc.:) I guess it's easy to pick out flaws in your own work, but I couldn't pull off anything like what you drew in a million lifetimes of effort, so I'm kind of awestruck over it. I don't see technical flaws, I just see a great rendering of Sam and Dean (especially Dean) and their pain, both in the art and the poem -which hurts btw :)...

This is the best thing you ever done!!!! Poem is 100 % fitting and so "our boys" and art is just the cherry on top. You always do a great job, but this... this is perfection... like petite madame perfection level. I wanted to ask a permission to print it and hang it on my wall, so I´m asking... can I?

Oh gosh, really? Yes of course you can print it - the link should take you to a reasonable size image. If it doesn't, let me know and I'll give you a different link. Thank you, that is a mega compliment!

Without any doubt, you know I checked everything you are drawing and I love it. But this is just from another world, both text+drawing... I´m not a pro so I can´t tell you exactly what makes it so special... but it really touched my heart in a SPN way ;) and it´s a really rare thing. And as you can see by the ammount of comments, I´m not the only one. Something is special about this pic, really touching ;)

P.S. thank you for permission. I downloaded the HD pic ;) so it would look amazing ;) Thank you again.
