For the SPN Proship Bang weekly drabble challenge. You can use one or several of the prompts.
Castiel was formless for a long time – or maybe it was a short time? Who knows how, or if, time worked in the Empty. It was quiet, almost peaceful, to be nothing. Jack pulling him back was surprising, and he felt different, after. Fixing Heaven was a useful distraction from thoughts of Winchesters, but then Dean died. Again.
Castiel considered seeing Dean, but instead something drew him to visit Sam, still alive on Earth. Perhaps it was because Sam’s grief was more familiar. Nestling inside Sam’s dreams, Castiel’s heart drummed to the same painful, rhythmic tattoo. It felt like home.
