No monochrome in this one! For my first sammybigbang art I was lucky enough to snag excoyote 's lovely story, which I know y'all are going to love. Theo, me dear, you were an absolute pleasure to work with!

There are no real spoilers for the story in the next art, it's a scene from early in the fic. I actually did this one second, but it's ended up being my favourite of the two.

The second, which is the first of the two main pictures that I created, might be considered spoilery (though you'd only be speculating without reading the story). On the other hand, if you are a hurt/comfort fan, this will hopefully just whet your appetite!

I then did a couple of crops to serve as close ups here, and icons if excoyote wanted them.


The process stuff:
excoyote's summary mentioned religious imagery and that was enough to set me off on the stained glass window route for the banner and the Dean Sam scene. I enjoyed it so much I had to try another one, with Sam running through the woods puffing steam like a dragon.

There's nothing that complicated about this one; I drew and coloured everything in Photoshop then layered over some textures to give them a more mottled effect for the impression of glass. I found a photo ref of a guy running on a beach for Sam's body, and used two screen caps for references for their faces. I stole the tree-background from somewhere via a google search and then altered it to suit my purposes. I'm a master palimpsester!

Such an awesome job getting the feel of stained glass in there. The thin lines making up the facial features are just like what you see when the glass is painted in addition to being colored. I love the blues and greens in the running one and the wooshing air behind Sam is great. Wonderful work!

I absolutely love the stained glass window designs, they look very cool and you did a GREAT job on the glass effect. The colouring of all the pieces is wonderful. Running Sam looks mighty fine, I would actually love to put that piece on my wall:)
