The Sketchbook Project

Apparently this is my third sketchbook from the Sketchbook Project and it will be the only one I've managed to send back (assuming I don't forget to take it to the post office tomorrow...). The first one I don't even remember at all and have no idea where it might be. The second I have and it's got about three pages filled. This one I dismantled and reflled with some slightly better paper and a few pages of watercolour paper, and I have at least filled most of it.

And here it is in all it's messy glory...

2020 page 1-2

Including blanks (sigh)
2020 page 3-4
An attempt at paper cutting
2020 page 9-10
Inspired by alby_mangroves (who is awesome)
2020 double bald woman page 1
Playing with my gouache set and liked the result
2020 page 5 gouache
random doodling in pen and ink
2020 page 5-6
more random ink doodling and sea creature in coloured pencils
2020 pg 7-8
Trying stuff with ink and then watercolour that didn't really work
2020 pg 15-16
Something I actually like! Even though it was completely out of my head, no references and no idea where it was going
2020 pg 21-22
Followed by something I really DON'T like
2020 pg 23-24
two completely unrelated pages next to each other - the bird is in ball point pen, the seascape is gouache
2020 pg 25-26
This page was coloured inks with black ink over the top.
2020 sunset silhouettes ink posca watercolour
Another two page spread of unrelated art - a piece I did just playing with watercolour and ink doodling, and a fuzy watercolour panda.
2020 pg 27-28

Ooh, how fun. I love how different all the pieces are. Great work!

I think people are expected to do something much more coherent than this, but at least some random stranger flicking through might find at least one thing they like! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I love all these--but I'm apparently having a '60s sort of day and so I LOVE the ants and mushrooms. The shading on the ink tree-and raven is lovely, and the watercolor panda and elsewhere are really lovely, too. A very broad variety of things and styles. I like it all! Now, don't forget to post it!

Thank you! I get the feeling I was supposed to do something much less random than I did, but never mind. It is what it is. I'm off to the post office in a minute! ๐Ÿ˜

Aw your hello monster is so cute.โ™ฅ
Moose and squirrel๐Ÿ™Œ
Your pretty fire bending lady๐Ÿ”ฅ
I remember that paper cutting!
Lol, is that creature eating the caterpillar or drooling on it? Aw, it kind of makes me think of dragon!sam and deanโ™ฅ
๐Ÿ‘€ is your sea creature related to your spn cinema work?
There's the angsty handsome devil!๐Ÿ‘ฟ
Hiatus beard!Jared ๐Ÿ™Œ
I like the stormy lighthouse. It just feels very valid to me for some reason.
The sunset is beautiful as always
๐Ÿ‘€ I bet if you made the watercolor foliage into a pattern or design people would buy it.
Lol, Relaxing panda is valid.

It's funny, because my brain obviously remembered Dragon!Dean when I was drawing the mushroom dog creature - I drew it and then thought - 'huh, done it again!'
Thanks for the pattern idea, I hadn't thought of that! I did four of those with the same colours and sent them as postcards to people. It would be an interesting challenge to try and create a repeating pattern, I'm not sure I'm attentive enough...

Thanks for commenting on each of them!

WOW!! There's so much beauty and talent here, I don't know where to start! I love the different styles, from the ink-work to the pencils and watercolours. I'm a sucker for lighthouses so the seascape is my favourite. Thanks for sharing xxx

Ah I didn't know you were a lighthouse fan!
Thanks me dear.

One of my happiest memories was sitting just looking at Godrevy Lighthouse in Cornwall while the rest of my family went for a walk!

I don't know what gouache is, but I really like it!

[identity profile] amberdreams.livejournal.com 2020-09-15 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's an opaque kind of waterbased paint. I used to use it all the time when I was at school but I don't think I ever actually learned how to use it properly LOL. Never too late to learn, huh?!

i love how different these all are! and of course there's a two moose. :D i love the doodly pen and ink ones, and the paper cut is fantastic. also the alby-inspired one, that's gorgeous. and the lighthouse has such great drama. crashing waves! clouds! i love it.

[identity profile] amberdreams.livejournal.com 2020-09-16 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I confess, the crashing waves on the lighthouse one were because I lost my temper with it and went a bit mad. It didn't do my poor paint brush much good, but I ended up liking how it turned out!

These are awesome and there are so many different styles and techniques! <3

Thank you! Let's be kind and say I was goign for variety over consistency. LOL!

I LOVE THIS, I LOVE THIS. Your ink doodling is INSPIRED and I am in love with it. <33333 Beautiful stuff on all pages and with all mediums. I think I especially love the moose and squirrel, and the demon-thing, which is GORGEOUS.

A sister of mine bought me a Sketchbook Project sketchbook for Christmas at my request. I was thinking about filling it with writings and observations paired with doodles and/or some other sorts of art, but with 2020 being 2020 (and me being me), I virtually forgot about it. :( Maybe I'll still fill it up!

Oh you should do it! You can send them back at any time - the deadline is only for their physical tour, and I don't even know if they are having those this year. You could even do a Covid diary...

And thank you for your lovely comment! I got excited about your sketchbook and forgot to say it.. LOL
