I love me a sci fi AU, and this is a very cool SPN one! It was a great pleasure to work with ghoulsnhalos on this. Story link HERE!


I did two main pics for this, I don't think either are spoilery.

First, Castiel meditating in his underground garden


Second is a scene from early in the story. I won't say why Sam and Dean are facing off here, you'll have to read that for yourself!






Progress stuff

Here's the drawing and inking for the Winchester face of scene before I tried out my new Roman Szmal watercolours.


And Cas


The boys are drawn on the same piece of paper, but I did Cas separately from his garden background. Cas and his garden, plus the bees, were done in my handmade Saunders Waterford paper sketchbook bought on Etsy, and the paper is a creamy colour. The Winchesters are in my Etchr Sketchbook, also cold pressed 100% cotton, but a whiter paper. Their background is a photo I played around with in Affinity - I gave it a grain texture and then layered it onto the painted background of the watercolour.

So here are the two unfiddled with watercolours. I'm using Affinity software now as my Photoshop CS6 doesn't work with Mac Catalina. *sigh*

I really love your title card. The garden is so lovely. It looks like acrylics not watercolors. Your bees are adorable. I love the shading and coloration on Cas. Dean has a ROBOT ARM!!! Aw, Sam and Dean are fighting. Sam doesn't exactly look too shocked, so maybe he knows something. Hmmmm, brother drama. Sam and Dean are surrounded by old tv's or monitors of some kind. I wonder if Sam's got a tech job or something. Or is this Dean's place and Sam was trespassing? So many questions.

Oh the garden is gouache, so that's more opaque than watercolour, well spotted!

i love that even sitting in his garden meditating (and mostly naked :D ) castiel is still scruffy. and dean's arm...! it looks a little like medieval armor, which is such a neat contrast with the fact that it's, you know, a robot arm. also, bees! the bees are great.

Glad you like the arm and didn't think it looked too slick - my author wanted it to be more utilitarian and steam punky than hi tech like Bucky's arm, for instance. Cheers me dear!

Love it all, Amb, your art is always so delightful *_* <3 You must be tired of hearing me drool over your paint and color skill but I just - AGH - your watercolor as always is above and beyond. Cass's otherworldly meditation and those bees are especially gorgeous *_* And omg all the stubble and body hair *BY HAND* I am stunned and jealous and it looks WAY too good. (Even the bees' little furry selves ;_;)
