Sketchbooking

Time flies! I didn't realise until I checked, but I haven't done an update since December, so I don't feel like I'm spamming you by posting now LOL.

Sketchbook update since January

Trying some colour theory stuff, just using watercolours and no drawing first. They weren't supposed to be accurate representations of the references, which is always a relief!
2019 colour theory Feb
Playing with the same elements and trying out different compositions to change the feeling the picture gives you.
2019 Feb positioning
This next one is from last night. We were supposed to be trying to add dramatic effect to a composition, working from black & white photos and adding whatever colours we fancied. This is the second train I've ever drawn! Our tutor found some references he liked, so this term trains keep popping up.
2019 Steam train
This is a train from earlier this term when we were doing perspective freehand, no rulers or guidelines. I was pleased with how both of them turned out, since normally I'd run a mile before tackling drawing machinery of any kind!
2019 winter term - perspective 1

Last weekend I went to London for a day's tutored drawing in the Victoria and Albert Museum, which was pretty fun. I might do a separate post on that, though we only ended up with 4 drawings from the day. The tutor was good, but I've already forgotten some of the handy tips she gave us! Doh.

I always enjoy seeing your sketches, and I really like your composition pieces.

I may have used that one elsewhere (I just realised I probably shouldn't have shared it publicly yet, oops)

Your lines and use of colors are really lovely! The image of the young man is poignant-- I want to know his story!

These are great, and I'm totally with you on the trains - I'd run a mile before attempting to draw anything mechanical too. The perspective on these is spot on!

Thanks for checking in!

You might get a chance on that last one (I shouldn't have shared this here because I put in a version using him in the Wincest RB...)

Thanks! This sketchbooking thing is definitely pushing my boundaries! :D

Well, he does look familiar, but I didn’t want to make assumptions! I’ll watch for the story, then. :-)

So I intend to keep going for now

Aww, excellent! *cheers you on*

All of your freeform watercolour work is a pleasure to look at. And the use of perspective in your drawings give them a great visual impact. :D
