Deals in Brimstone - meanttobe art post

My second art post for spn_meanttobe is for walking_tornado's Deals in Brimstone.
It's a bittersweet Stanford era AU - and I'm a sucker for anything to do with Dean during that time. And yeah, that is supposed to be Crowley on Dean's shoulder there...so now you have to read it, no?

I didn't get as much done as I wanted, and I'm not totally happy with the end result, but it almost works, so that will have to be enough!
Here's the full picture done as a book cover


i took my inspiration from some of the promos from Magic City, which used that turquoisey colour combined with black and white photos - but this idea didn't quite turn out as I wanted when I tried drawing the figures instead of using photos. Also I really wasn't happy with John's face, it doesn't look like him at all. *sigh*
See what I mean?

But I was pleased how Dean came out.


Progress stuff:
My first draft had Dean smoking but walking_tornado didn't like that (neither did I really) so I amended it to replace the cigarette with a drink. Oh the joys of working digitally!
chomaisky did a really helpful beta for me (damn I wish I had half her draftsmanship!). Thank you again, my dear. You are a star.

This was the reference I used for Dean - it's one of my photos from Asylum 6. Mmm yummy, meaty thighs...

Love the the air of a slightly seedy bar, just the place one might choose to make questionable deals. You've captured Dean's body language perfectly -- I'm also glad you got rid of the cigarette for the final version. John/JDM is often difficult to capture, so I wouldn't fret too much. :)

Whoops! :P I see Jeff and always think Jeff; maybe I just know him too broadly from other works. Whereas Dean/Jensen is 50/50.

This is gorgeous. I love the shadowy feel. it actually makes me think of a speakeasy! Dean looks great, and I love Crowley's head resting on his shoulder.
