There's this author game going around called 7/77, where we are supposed to post 7 sentences from page 77 (or page 7 if you aren't that far in) of your current WIP. Rather than spend all day tagging all the authors I know, I'll just say: If you see this, DO IT!
So I originally thought I'd have to go to my novel for something with 77 pages, but then realised that wasn't strictly speaking a WIP as it's finished though in dire need of editing. So I moved to it's sequel, which has been abandonned in an incomplete state for quite some time, but has a considerable number of pages and is definitely a WIP (though the progress part is debatable!).
I've kind of guessed where page 77 might be as the chapters are all saved in separate word documents. Here's my 7 sentences
He lay still and relaxed, keeping his breathing soft and even. Jake had always been adept at fooling Nathan and his father into believing he was soundly asleep, where Nathan had never mastered the art, always giving himself away with small tells – changes in his breathing, involuntary tensing of muscles. Jake knew this was the only way to keep himself safe from the interrogation he knew was awaiting him on waking, though he was well aware that feigning unconsciousness was not a permanent solution. He would have to face his brother eventually. He couldn’t hide forever, and, he realised with a small sense of surprise, he was done with running away.
The trouble was, Nathan’s presence was burning Jake in so many ways. He was ashamed on so many counts, and was reluctant to face any of them.
Now run away and play!
