Season 15 finale number 1 - insta reaction
So.
Yup. That happened, and then it all ended, and yet we have another ending next week? Why do I feel like I'm watching Lord of the Rings Return of the King all over again?
What did you all think?
My insta (or nearly insta as it's a few hours later) reaction is one of confusion. It was a Buck Lemming episode so it was a bit of a jumbled mess and of course they had to bring Lucifer back. But it was also - kind of sweet, and semi-exciting, and there was a twist that actually worked? So I don't really know what to think.
Other than I'd be MORE than happy to end the show here - with just you and me, Sammy, in Baby, driving into a vague and undefined sunset future. There's enough openness in that for us to create any number of fanfics about what comes next. With Jack everywhere but detatched and serene (for now), the brothers together but alone, and the intriguing thought that the next angel to die will become the new Death. (I'm thinking it might be any angel, since Reapers are angels, right?).
I'm now kind of dreading next week, because Dabb has proved he has no idea what a good story is, and I fear he's been listening far too much to the loud voices on Twitter for direction. But he might surprise me. Buck Lemming did, after all.

I'm worried about next week, too. I would have been very happy with the show ending with the boys driving off into the sunset together. The way things are, people could headcanon any resurrection or ship they wanted to happen after that final scene, and go pretty much anywhere with fanworks. That's a nice place to be and I don't want to see it go away...
I've been more forgiving of recent seasons than some, I think, so I'm also cautiously hopeful. IDK. Fingers crossed. If it's awful, hopefully we can all agree to kind of collectively forget about it the way the Harry Potter fandom did with the epilogue and pretend this was the real end, lol.

P.S. I meant to say in my first comment that Reapers ARE angels, and that's a very interesting idea that any angel who died could be the next Death! They'd said in the past that only the next Reaper who dies becomes the new one, but who knows how Jack might choose to tweak things and open it up to any angel. I could see Anael being kind of a cool Death...

Only one of my friends pointed out we got the 'happy ever after' ending this week so, since Supernatural has always been a tragedy, next week we get our hearts ripped out and stomped on...

I found the beating of Sam and Dean to be tedious, been-there-done-that, and a little ludicrous given what a shrimp Rob is. (I know, God-strength, yeah, yeah). If they wanted Jack to absorb more of God's power, I wish they had come up with something more fresh. The boys bleed and wince so nicely, but this was over-the-top and gratutitous. Again.
The montage of their past glories seemed somewhat random. I can think of loads of vidders who could have come up with something more engaging, poignant, and/or powerful than we got. Wasted opportunity there. I expected (naively) to be more more emotional engaged in the episode, but nada.
And despite all that... it was an okay episode!

Still, it was a lot better than I'd expected, and strangely satisfying. Which of course makes me apprehensive all over again about next week!

The boys were smart (something the writers sometimes forget), not just pawns. They were defiant, and united. They got the ending they deserved and earned.
But I think I will pick up a pint of ice cream for next week's finale, in case I need the comfort fix. ;D

That said, I'm more than a little apprehensive about next week's episode because I know it's been said many times, on the inside and on the outside that Supernatural couldn't have a happy ending...
I just hope that whatever happens, and as others have said, that there is enough leeway left to give us hope for a reboot or movie!
