Stuff and business
Just a drive-by to apologise for being largely absent - Gishing is swallowing up my week, and I doubt I'll ever catch up with all your posts. Especially as I also need to finish my second BB art work, and read two long awaited Big Bangs PDQ!
But I wanted to come on to have a whinge. Then a moan/squee.
How come even online, I can still feel like the boring kid in the corner that never gets included in the cool kids' discussions? How come those horrible feelings from schooldays can linger when over forty years have gone by? I guess I'm just not cut out to be interesting enough that people want to email me to chat about stuff. You'd think at some point we'd grow out of this crap, wouldn't you. *sigh*
However, I refuse to let these stupid feelings of inadequacy get me down.
Gishweek is going rather well! Though I've failed to persuade my dentist surgery that they need a string quartet in the surgeries to calm their patients down. Which is sad, especially as I know other teams will manage that one. It's bugging me because I know two dentists, one in the US and one in Australia, and I have one friend in a string quartet and another whose kids are in the local Youth Orchestra, so it felt as though I should have been able to finagle it somehow.
Now I'm off to create an album cover featuring an animal rock star. Byeeee!

After reading the other comments here, I have to admit I'm confused how anyone can actually hold conversations on Twitter. That's, like, the stupidest thing ever. It's 140 characters. How can you converse like that?! I do have a Twitter account (which I only use to
stalkfollow certain celebs) so I'm blissfully unaware of fandom folks migrating there to be active, but tbh, if there's any kind of "meaningful conversation" going on there, I'd rather not be part of it.As for Gishwhes... YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE, DEAR! One of my cousins is in the Navy and stationed in a Yard that, among other things, has war ships! I'll ask him if he'd be willing to hula-hoop for ya, ok? :)

And thank you!
Oh PS if he can't do it, no worries. :D

He'll have to ask for permission first though - he's enlisted but not stationed on any of the ships (he works at the Yard) so this might be a problem. He'll talk to his CO tomorrow. If all goes well, he'd hold up a sign with your team's name on it while (trying to) hula hoop. Would that be enough?
Again - we need to wait for permission so I have no clue if I can actually help with the item but as far as my cousin is concerned, he's game. (He promised to practice hula-hooping in his backyard tonight. LOL)

Edited to say, if he can only do it in front of a war ship instead of on it, that would probably get us some valuable points.. :D

I asked him if he'd be allowed to do any hula hooping in front of a war ship like you suggested and he said he had no clue because that, too, is apparently a restricted area. He'll try to find out over the weekend and suggested he could also try to find a seaman who might be willing to do the item.
How much time do we have left? I'm sorry I don't have better news but for now there's at least still a small chance... *crosses fingers*
Is there maybe another item I could try to help you with in the meantime?

We have 1 day 11 hours left (you can check the countdown clock here https://www.gishwhes.com/)
I have absolutely no idea what's going on right now - there are loads of tasks we haven't managed to get to, but I think we have done pretty well in spite of that. Nobody expects to complete everything on the list. I was sad not to get the one about a string quartet playing soothing music in a dentist surgery - I had the strings but no willing dentist! LOL

Gonna give you an update as soon as I hear back from him. *crosses any and all fingers and toes and eyes*

My cousin actually found someone who would've been willing to help out but the big brass apparently had a conniption fit and made it clear that there would be no video anywhere near (or, Chuck forbid, ON) the damn war ships. It's not as if we're showing the blue prints of the fucking things or tell anyone where they're hiding the ammo! *headdesk*
And it was just too dangerous to try against explicit orders, obviously.
I'm so sorry!!! :(
(Icon directed at big brass, obviously, not you.)

Please thank your boy for trying - I really appreciate both him and you having a go for us!
Oh and if you fancy Gishing yourself next year, my team is always on the look out for willing souls!

I also think Gishwhes is not about spending tons of money - I think the most I paid last year was for the ingredients for my Princess Leia bread. LOL! Though I like the idea of using the HMS Belfast for the item - I'm sure other teams might've done that (or used other museum ships).
My cousin's pretty unhappy that the whole thing didn't work out. He said he was now going to retire from competitive hula-hooping. *smishes him*
I would've Gished again this year but everyone's gone on vacation at work so it's just me and one coworker and there was no way for me to get anything done. Maybe better luck next year? Would love to join your team! ♥
