I was very taken with this summergen ficlet and the final scene haunted me.
Pic is spoilery (obviously!)
A scrappy sketch in GIMP with some sandstorm brushing and an overlay lighting effect using a texture by letzte-Regen.

Having just read the fic, I can truly say, you more than did it justice.

The emptness created out of the yellow/red/black background is the most striking part of this for me.
