The Nile cruise was ok but not the best way to see the country - you spend a lot of time on the boat, and when we did dock and get on shore to sight see, it was all - you have one or two hours then you have to be back on the boat to eat some massive buffet meal. The trip seemed more geared round eating than seeing stuff, and that's just not me. Not that I don't like my food - I do!
Plus the sightseeing was very regimented - go here and see this thing, don't wander off to explore the temple or the rest of the site...
We were probably a bit spoiled for Egypt though, because we went to Jordan first, and that was amazing. The people were so lovely and welcoming, and Petra was stunning. Then Egypt was full of men trying to sell you stuff EVERYWHERE, and if you were even vaguely female and youngish, men trying to chat you up everywhere else.
