Sundry villains - S13E12 insta reaction
Spoilers ahoy (obviously)
Good bits:
The rest:
I'm a bad, forgetful fangirl. It had completely slipped my mind that a) Cas was hanging out with Lucifer and b) they were both locked up in Colonel Sanders' demon asylum prison cells. I had no memory of that happening at all. Ah well. Which raises the question - how was Castiel apparently ringing the Winchesters every day? Didn't Sam say that he was doing that? It makes no sense - if he was calling them, why wouldn't he have told them where he was and that Lucifer was with him? (And do I care? Probably not - so *handwaves*).
Thankfully the THEN provided some reminders to mentally prepare me for the Angelic double act and their break out. It didn't really prepare me for the unconvincing rage-powered Lucifer prison break because really? All an underpowered archangel needed to fry the wardings was to get angry - even when those wardings were keeping a fully powered Castiel behind bars too? I mean if Lucifer at a third power (or whatever level of grace Michael left him with) has that much more juice than Castiel at full strength, then what was stopping him simply taking the grace he needed from Cas by force? It's not like Lucifer has any principles to stop him doing the dirty.
I also find it hard to believe Cas has just ganked Lucifer. I'm sure something's going to happen in the next episode in that regard.
And Rowena is back. Since I'd been spoiled on that particular plot point, thanks to effing Twitter and effing writers and gawd knows how many other actors etc going on about it, there was no Surprise! moment there. Which could have made it more fun. Rowena is, apparently, the most powerful witch of all time. Okay then. I'm finding it hard to accept just how powerful witches in SPN are all of a sudden. I mean, all they need are a few words in Latin to fling Winchesters around like match sticks. If it were that fecking easy, why aren't we all witches then? There seem to be a lot of things witches can do that don't involve human (or any) sacrifices, so why not do those things all the time? Where's the cost of power? There should be a cost, or it's meaningless.
I assume we were supposed to be drawing parallels between the witch sisters and their desperate attempts to bring back their beloved mother and the Winchesters. Yeah, Show, I get it, you can stop swinging that mallet at my head, now, thanks. All that did was make me miss Leviathan!Winchesters. They had that wickedness down pat. Oh and how come 90% of witches in the Show are women? Terrible-Irish-accented male witch and James Marsters characters showed that they don't have to be female all the time. Come on show, mix it up a little!
Oh dear. It seems I have more moans and WTHs than squees again. Sorry about that!
Good bits:
- Dean in love was hilarious, right up until he knocked Sam out with a smile on his face. That was actually kind of chilling, even while it was still funny - and kudos to Jensen and Jared's acting prowess for that.
- Sam in the car, talking to Rowena about seeing Lucifer's true face. Of course there was still a lot left unsaid, and it glossed over the fact that what happened to Rowena was a brief, quickly-over moment of agony, while Sam endured the equivalent of hundreds of years of drawn out torture. But still, it was very good to have the show acknowledge Sam's PTSD, his nightmares, his endurance. And to give us Sam's sad, stoic face during those gorgeous close ups. *happy sigh*
- Dean's pep talk and Sam's reaction. I loved that Dean is trying so hard; I loved that Sam didn't dismiss the effort but made it clear he needs something more than a promise from his big brother that everything is going to be all right.
- Dean had an injury he needed to ice! It's always great when the show gives us a fight that actually causes lasting damage. I know this is a fantasy show, but I don't think TV should be allowed to show fighting that leaves no after-effects - violence should have consequences (at least occasionally!).
